UCSB Acceptance thread

Isla Vista is not nice in my opinion. And yes, Santa Barbara is the "party school" of the UCs--it also is the least diverse.

I figured someone would misconstrue my words. I said much, much nicer. Not necessarily nice. The lesser of two evils if you will. It also depends on where in IV you live. The apt complexes are ghetto but some of the bigger houses aren't bad at all.

for someone who moved to Isla Vista freshman year to go to ccc down here I can tell you that it is a great place. Yes, there is tons of partying, but thats not to say you can't study. Students live by the work hard/play hard moto here and I think that is a healthy balance. No one is clicky, everyone allows you into their homes to drink their beer or whatever no matter who you are and whether (sp) or not they know you. It is so relaxed here that I cant even begin to explain... A word of caution though... I have seen many people come here transfering and as freshman and have ruined themselves by partying to much and getting kicked out of school. So have some self control and have a great college experience. I have been down here for 3 years and am now transfering to UCSB because I love it here so much.

although I do feel a responsibility to prevent baseless information from spreading on here.

Well, you need some work, because UCSC is statistically less diverse than UCSB (at least according to US News' calculation).

Ah, yeah. It of course depends on what you consider "diversity" to be. I was basing it on the 56% Caucasion figure, but anyway, here are the stats (from the school websites) so people can see for themselves:

Santa Cruz:

Euro-American 51.9%
Asian American/Pacific Islander 19.1%
Hispanic 14.6%
Not stated (U.S. residents) 10.0%
African American 2.6%
American Indian 0.9%
International 0.9%

Santa Barbara:

Caucasion 56%
Chicano 16%
Asian/Pacific Islander/E. Indian/Pakistani 15%
Latino 5%
African American 3%
Filipino 3%
Other 2%
American Indian/Alaskan Native 1%

It of course depends on what you consider "diversity" to be

Which is why I think it's a stupid thing to try to put down a university on "diversity". Well, maybe it's just me, I don't look through the world with "race vision", it's not race that makes diversity, it's people, unless you think each race has some mutually exclusive traits.

Also, I could argue UCs like Davis aren't diverse because it's 35% Asian population does not accurately reflect California's 11% Asian population.
