UCSB Acceptee's Here

I was super stoked when I found out we got accepted, its my first acceptance.
Anyone one else, I got in through the Chancellor's Reception thing today.

I was accepted today also.
It was my first choice =]

hmm Chancellor's Reception...?

congrats guys. the reception thing was my first UC acceptance last year too. it was a nice feeling =P

My mom cried, lol.

I can't go to the one in LA. Specifically, what did they talk about?

actually, when i went to the reception i already knew that i had been accepted and knew what to anticipate, but i still almost cried when they actually told us XD... i still remember how relieved i was, since i had been so stressed and nervous about not having a college to go to =P

It was awesome getting accepted and I teared up a little. I'm definitely considering UCSB because they got a great engineering program, a nice coastal location (a great escape from the lameness of the central valley), and tons of babes. So if you are reading this and are planning on going to the LA reception, sorry to ruin the surprise because you just got accepted into UCSB.

On the UCSB online account it says

"Freshmen applicants will be notified of admission decisions on this site between March 17 and March 30.

Transfer applicants will be notified of admission decisions on this site between March 17 and May 1."

So how did you get admitted already?

I got a package in the mail saying I'm a Regent's scholar, which isn't an actual acceptance, but it pretty much means you're in. Also, the Chancellor's reception is for the top applicants. They let you know that you got in earlier than the rest of the applicants.

I got mail from UCSB wanting me to enter in a renewable $8,000 scholarship for engineering. Is that somehow related to the Regent's thing?

It's not related to Regents. I think it's Burnham's or something like that. You have to apply for Burnham's but Regents automatically goes to top 4% of applicants. I got that, too, but I'm a bio major. I don't think they'd send it to you if you weren't a competitive applicant, so I'm sure you're in.

yay i am accepted too! even though i already knew when i went to the reception.

anybody know when nonRegents applicants will being to be notified of admission decisions?

On March 17

Konakai27: According to UCSB's website, Regents at UCSB is top 2% of ADMITTED freshman, which is a lot less than top 4% of applicants.

At 44,673 freshman applicants, 1,787 would be top 4% of applicatns.
With an admit rate at about 50%, top 2% of admits would be about 445 applicants.

If you received Regents at UCSB, I would be shocked if you did not get into UCLA/UCB.

Something like that Chancellor's Reception Invite is probably around 10% of APPLICANTS since about 10% of each freshman class is in the honors program.

Yeah, 2% makes more sense. I don't know where I got 4% from.
I asked my college counselor if I had a good shot at Cal/LA and she said it would be harder for me to get in and that Irvine/San Diego/Davis would be better matches for me. I'm around #20 in my class (97th percentile), whereas the top 10 usually get in Cal/LA. I hope you're right and she's wrong, though. haha.

You might have gotten it from UCSD Scholar's Day, which is top 4% of applicants or about 1,800 kids.

Top 3%? What kind of grades and test scores do you have?

I don't know about your school, but at my school last year the senior class was 104 kids and there were a couple kids at about top 12% that got into Berkeley. Only 1 kid in the whole top 10% of the class got denied to both.

I mean, I'm at about 91st percentile and I figure I have a pretty decent shot at UCLA/UCB. My counselor said he wouldn't be suprised if I got into both UCLA/UCB but that he also wouldn't be suprised if I got denied to both haha

UC GPA: 4.4
SAT: 2080
SAT II: Bio (790), Math (730)
I've taken mostly honors classes with only 3 APs.
EC: volunteer (20 hrs), tutor, tennis team, art (10 years), peer counselor.
I thought my essays were good.

I guess my school is pretty mediocre compared to yours.

Well I go to a private college prep school...so probably. How are you 20 with a 4.4? That's maxed out isn't it?

I'm at a 4.2 with a 2120, with SAT IIs 720 and 680 so obviously I'd take your stats over mine anyday. Your ECs aren't too hot, but I would still put my money on you getting into UCLA/UCB, especially if you are ELC.

UCLA/UCB sort through and decide on about 85% of their applicants based on GPA, course difficulty, and test scores alone.
