@brokencoconut I understand your frustration and good luck on your other schools. I am a California parent and my kid got into every single UC she applied to. So let’s not point fingers to who took your spot. May the best man win.

@WonwillP, I don’t know, it probably depends on the major, at least. My son got into both, in Physics, but was considered top 15% for UCSB (chancellor’s reception invitee), and just part of the pack at UCSD. That seems to imply that UCSD has at least mildly higher standards, though we don’t know where he placed overall in UCSD. So maybe not. I do know (based on fairly simple research), historically, UCSD has higher acceptance rates than UCSB.
@brokencoconut its okay! I already got accepted to other UC’s plus San Jose State University, which was my first choice anyways. #gospartans plus I will be in the Bay Area :D/
Accepted Pre-communication major
2000 SAT
700 SAT II Math 2
3.85 UC UW GPA
@brokencoconut Sorry buddy, but this is a lesson you will learn for the rest of your life. If you were rejected to those schools, something was wrong with your application. My best friends mom is an admissions counselor at UCSD, so I am well aware of UCs letting in an increased amount of OOS. But they also are funded by CA, so have an obligation to let way more in state students in than out of state.
Step up. Being rejected to multiple schools sucks, but do not blame you being in state, or you being randomly plucked out of a list of accepted students to be on the wait list. Life has no scapegoats, just opportunities to improve yourself, and that first step for you seems to be by taking responsibility for yourself, no matter how unfair that situation seems to you.
ACCEPTED! Pre-Bio CL&S Honors program! So excited! 34 ACT, 3.98 UC GPA
@Salutation False. UCSD has higher average GPA and acceptance rate than UCSB.
Already knew I had been accepted since last month, but I am glad to finally see the official acceptance on the webstite. Also happy to see my financial aid package!

@kayasizzle that’s great, I’m happy for you!
@Undercovermom1 where did you find out about honor?!
@brokencoconut you’re being quite awful. you cannot say these colleges chose out of staters instead of you. you had the exact chance of getting in as they did. uc’s are holistic. they don’t look at solely scores, they look at people entirely. maybe you didn’t get in because there were applicants they felt were better suited for their campus. but you got waitlisted for some, do not be bitter. i am an in state and got into every single uc i applied to. i was not disadvantaged for being in state. they liked my application, that’s all.
@JohnM2020 super easy to miss in letter.
