UCSB Admissions 2020

If yuo got the chancellor’s invite, you’re definitely in.

I’m a current first-year CS major at UCSB, just made this post: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-santa-barbara/1871855-ucsb-computer-science-engineering-current-first-years-experience-observations-advice.html#latest . If you’re applying to CS/Engineering, you should read through this! Regardless, come ask any questions you have.

Good luck on admissions!

@pmast25

Yay! I received the invite but not the meet your counsellor email. Fingers crossed for good FA!

in my junior year, I signed up for a college class at my school, but switched out at the beginning. It didn’t show on my high school transcript (it showed up at the beginning before I switched) but on my college transcript it showed as an F. if I mentioned this on my UC App, will they take that into consideration? I have a feeling that’s why I’ve been rejected to Davis, SD, and now maybe even Irvine

@sourfeature There was an additional comments section on the application for explaining things like that, I’m hoping you used it

@IneffableMind yea that’s what I used to explain it

In that case I think you should be fine

Guys, not trying to sound cocky or arrogant in any way,but my stats are higher than most of the people who got invited or those who received the Regents Scholarship. I haven’t received any email from UCSB except the application confirmation one, and the one telling me to make my UCSB portal. I have a green card for the state of California, but I currently live in Dubai, UAE. Does this mean that I am not accepted?

It’s not just raw SAT and GPA that matter. OOS students, in particular, must remember that the UC system gives weightage only to honors classes taken in California high schools. If you go to a non ca high school, you get weightage only for AP/IB classes, nothing else. So your weighted stats might not be as high as you think. Secondly they also give great importance to your essay and extra curriculars. So if those weren’t as strong, it would have effected your final holistic score calculation for the scholarships. Bear in mind that extremely few non CA residents get these scholarships. Finally only the top candidates get these scholarships, most of those admitted do not.

My OOS daughter got into Pomona and has a likely from an ivy, a big merit scholarship from another top LAC besides 100% application acceptance rate to any college so far but didn’t get Regent’s or Chancellor’s etc from the UCs either. We simply didn’t think she would get much being OOS.

What time are the admission decisions being released tomorrow?

3 pm pacific time

I got flat out rejected from UCSD but accepted to UCLA! You really can’t predict UC admissions.
There’s still hope guys

I got accepted to Davis with a 3.0 UW GPA but I’m pretty sure I’m out of good fortune for UCSB

@lighght I got accepted with a low GPA as well (68/100), but with a high SAT (2120).

Just wondering, what was your SAT score?

Dear ___________,

I’m writing on behalf of the mathematics faculty at UC Santa Barbara’s College of Creative Studies. We’ve noticed that you are a promising applicant to the math major here at UCSB in the College of Letters and Science. I would like to invite you to instead consider majoring in mathematics through the College of Creative Studies (CCS).

The math program in the CCS is designed to foster the development of a small, carefully selected group of highly talented students into research active colleagues in the mathematics community. Our students enjoy many special privileges within the university and the majority

Please feel free to reply to this email with any questions, and should you be visiting campus in the near future, I am happy to meet with you to discuss the CCS program. More information about campus visits can be found here: https://ccs.ucsb.edu/math/contact

Wherever you end up, I am fully confident that you will achieve great things during your university career and beyond, and I wish you all the best.

Karel Casteels
