I don’t think it is. I got this email during my junior year of high school, but haven’t gotten it this year.
I also gotten it junior year but not this year
Spring Insight for UCSB seems like Cal Day in that it invites all sorts of people.
I was just waitlisted at UC San Diego and now feel I will not get in to UCSB, since more people want to go here.
UCSD Major: biochemistry
UCSB Major:biochemistry
Unweighted GPA: 3.9
SAT: 1170
IB Diploma: 35 including 6 in HL Chemistry, 6 in HL English 5 in HL Biology
Do I have a chance?
@oviandhisbros my D was Waitlisted at UCSD 2 yrs ago and was accepted UCSB
@oviandhisbros Our D also got waitlisted at UCSD, but got invited to UCSB chancellor’s reception, which we are told means an acceptance. You still have a chance. Good luck!
Does UCSB accept you into their college before considering major like UCSD or UCI? I did engineering for both intended and alternative. I honestly wouldn’t mind getting in undeclared if they don’t want me for engineering though so ???
@Bcrator did she eventually get into UCSD? And what were her stats like?
@Madrocks how do you know if you get chancellor’s reception?
@Ramenous the majority of majors at UCSB are in the College of L&S. It is very easy to change majors within the College of L&S at UCSB but it is virtually impossible to change from College of L&S to College of Engineering.
It looks like you should have probably chosen an alternative major in the College of L&S. From: https://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/applying/freshman/selection
“Students are selected by major for all engineering and computer science majors. Only applicants with a solid background in advanced high school mathematics will be considered for admission to engineering. This includes high grades in all math courses through grade 11 and enrollment in pre-calculus or higher in grade 12. A student not selected for their first choice major will be reviewed for admission to an alternate major outside of the College of Engineering if one was selected.”
@oviandhisbros we’re in the same boat as @Madrocks although with lower stats (they got Regents at UCD and we didn’t). Got accepted to UCI CHP, Chancellor’s Reception invite at UCSB, UCSC (merit scholarship), in at UCD, SLO but waitlisted at UCSD and denied at UCLA.
Chancellor’s Reception was an invite that came in the mail in Feb. It was sent to what UCSB considered the top 15% of their applicants.
I wouldn’t compare chances at UCSB to anything from UCSD. The schools look for different attributes in applicants.
Different attributes? Could you elaborate because I’m trying to differentiate the school’s by campus culture. I’ve been accepted to UCSD and got Chancellor Invite at SB.
@oviandhisbros D was transfer so only GPA mattered 3.5 but great essay and Girlscout Gold, debate team with awards, National Charity League with leadership position, Captain Waterpolo … ended up accepted to UCLA.
Has anyone gotten accepted or rejected yet?
@Bcrator oh alright, but since I got waitlisted to UCSD and its a higher tier university than UCSB do you reckon I have a better chance of getting into UCSB?
Just attended the San Jose Chancellor’s Reception, and what I already knew was confirmed! I’m in! Not Regents though… oh how I envy those blessed with the red ribbon.
@E17 I can’t really answer your question about campus culture without expressing a bias. I think you should do some research into the two schools and see if one campus culture feels like it is more of a fit for you.
UCSD is no longer ranked higher then UCSD. From what I believe and have seen on all those websites focused on ranks, Santa Barbara is ranked higher now than San Diego!
Where any kids from San Diego invited to the Chancellor’s Reception?
