****UCSB Admissions 2021****

Accepted!Pre-psy and brain science

Accepted. And for future applicants, don’t freak out if you don’t get the Spring Insight email. I didn’t get it and got accepted.

What is my chance on the waitlist? I don’t want to get my hopes up too much.

Yes. I didn’t receive any email yet I got accepted to every UC school I applied so far, including UCLA

I’m just in shock. This is the second rejection for my daughter and I just don’t understand why. 4.2 weighted GPA, 3.86 UW. SAT’s 1290; In state; 7 AP Courses; 4 year varsity athlete; multi sport. Leadership, tons of volunteer, work experience. Essays were excellent. Life experience, which was reflected in her essays, were outstanding. She is super happy with her acceptance for SLO (First choice) but I’m just in shock at how these amazing kids are getting denied. What is going on with our college systems in California. I cannot think of anything else this child or many of you others could have done.

UCSB is my top choice :frowning: I hope I get off

good essays about passion for science and emotional growth through family member’s mentall ilness

if it makes anyone feel any better, my friend with a 4.4 GPA got into UCSD, UCI, UC Davis, and UCLA but was waitlisted at UCSB for bioengineering (she’s not accepting her waitlist offer)

does anyone else’s portal say they got accepted to honors? what exactly does this mean? i didn’t get invited to the chancellors reception or anything so i’m a bit confused…

“Amazing students” being rejected…just a numbers issue; there’s only so much room in a freshman class. I’m sure all the people who get/got accepted are amazing also. “Rejection” is hard, but I’m sure for all of our kids, one day this will just be a small blip. Ya know, too, there are two ways to decide admissions: strictly by numbers, and more holistically. Either way has its drawbacks. By shear numbers, kids who worked, played multiple sports, have learning issues, etc., can get left out. Holistically, kids who worked very hard to achieve high stats, can get left out. Hard on some folks either way. Best of luck to everyone, and chins up.

@dafishisdelish yeah that’s true, but on UCSB’s website they said that stats and the personal parts of the application are weighted the same. I wrote one of my essays on how I’m drawing a portrait of every senior in my class and how I ended up getting bullied for it, but wasn’t even wait listed. I’m not trying to be a brat; I just didn’t realize how subjective and random the process is.

@aandt5 Well said. My daughter too waitlisted and has very similar credentials. She does have some other aceceptances including SLO but this is so disheartenning
