****UCSB Admissions 2021****

@gureum highly doubt that. their myaid page is just down for maintenance

Decision: Accepted!
Pre-Sociology
UC GPA: W-3.78, UW- 3.47
SAT: 1220
ACT: 28
9 AP classes and multiple honors classes, passed all AP tests with fairly high scores
Many ECs and average(?) essays.
Accepted: CSUS and UCSB
Waitlisted: UCSC and SDSU
Rejected: UCSD
Waiting: CSULB (in the competitive round???)
I was actually really surprised to be admitted because my stats appear mostly below average and I was rejected/waitlisted to schools I thought I would have a better chance at.

Congrats everyone who got accepted!

@Versalia I tried logging into the myaid page, but I needed an ID. When I tried making one, they said they are only given to students who have accepted admission. Hopefully I’m wrong and they will release estimates soon.

@gureum if you look at the page you see where you’re admitted on the top it says “check financial status”. mine does not require any re logging in when I do this from my applicant portal.

@Versalia I clicked that from my application status page. If you click on one of the lower sidebars (say, “calculator”) and then click back on the “my aid” sidebar, it will no longer say that it is undergoing maintenance.

Waitlisted for CS. Honestly a bit surprised. Here are my stats:

GPA (UW/UC/W): 4.0/4.4/4.64
SAT: 2200 single sitting, 2290 superscored
SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 Physics
ECs: work as a software consultant, led my team to international finals for MIT ZR, top 40 in MITs battlecode competition, and I’m in a human cadaver dissection program at my school (I want to study how certain facets of the human body relate to AI). I really want to work for OpenAI, which is a nonprofit Silicon Valley-based company studying applications of reinforcement learning (Elon Musk and Sam Altman are backers), and I already am familar with their gym and universe software (beta tester).

Currently …
Accepted: UCSD, UCI (w/ regents)
Waitlisted: UCLA, UCSB, UC Davis
Rejected: MIT, Caltech (although deferred EA for both)
Waiting: Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard

What happened? Thought I was a slam dunk at SB. I guess even great EC’s don’t do much for you, huh.

Is there a Facebook page for admitted students? Like to help with finding a roommate?

@MisterStudentt sb does have a lower acceptance then davis but that doesn’t not mean one is better than the other. Schools look at diffe rent things. I was rejected from Davis but accepted from SB.

@gureum hmm, I see what you mean. regardless, they would not force you to accept to see your award. I’m not even sure that would be “legal”

@springpoppy you can pick your own roommate?

Weirdest thing. Didn’t get in for Mechanical Engineering, but got into the L&S Honors Program for Pre-Biology.

Congrats to all those who got accepted! Heartfelt condolences to those who didn’t.

I want to send words of encouragement to all students and parents, especially those who’ve been receiving rejections.

As multiple Ivy-league degreed parents that have now gone through (mostly) an admissions season with our second child (and our kids’s cohorts), college admissions seems to have turned into a numbers game with some arbitrariness to the decisions. The randomness is a bit harsh, magnified by the perceived importance of which college or university one is accepted to, which seems totally overblown and overrated.

In the end, the high achieving, motivated kid will realize great academic and life success, regardless of which college initially accepts him or her out of high school.

Keep the faith!

Hey guys, new to college confidential

One of my bestest friends got accepted and since she doesn’t have an account I will be it for her LOL.
