My DD got the chancellor’s invitation today.
Congrats to everyone who got the invitation!! :~)
Invitation to the Chancellor’s reception does not mean admission to the honors program.
But does it mean automatic admission?
It has in the past
is it really worth going to the chancellor’s reception besides finding out if you got accepted?
How frequent is it to receive berkeley’s regents but not santa barbara?
I made a groupme for UCSB 2021 if any of you want to join!
have any UCSB regents come out?
I’m currently a student at UCSB, and last year at this same exact time I was on the CC forum for UCSB class of 2020 … crazy to scroll through the conversation and see literally the same doubts and concerns we had last year. So just to clarify, I was also invited to the chancellor’s reception and it does mean that you are officially admitted! They will announce this as a “surprise” during the reception so congrats for that. However, receiving this invitation does NOT mean anything in regards to the honors program or regents. I did not get honors nor regents so I can testify. But you CAN apply for honors later on after you are already enrolled (and it doesn’t matter when you enrolled in honors; you will graduate with the same honors even if you join right before your junior year). If you have any other questions you want answered lmk ~ I wish I could go back a year and tell myself everything I have learned during my time at UCSB … but yeah… good luck everyone!!
Invites arrived in LA County today.
My son just received an invitation to the Chancellor’s reception today. I had pretty much thought he wouldn’t get one, since so many people got their invitations last week. We are in-state, and he was invited to apply for Regent’s at UCLA and was admitted early to Cal, but UCSB is definitely in the running too. It’s all about where he is going to feel most comfortable the next four years.
Is Chancellor’s reception just an in-state thing or do OOS kids get it too? And what does it mean? If it doesn’t mean $$ or honors program? And did it only come in the US mail, not a portal update or email?
@jjmama: OOS and In-state applicants can be invited for the Chancellors Reception. Regents is the only $$ awarded and being invited does not guarantee Regents or the Honors program.
What is the purpose of the UCSB Chancellor’s Receptions?
The receptions will provide you and your family with the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty, staff and alumni who will introduce you to opportunities on campus. Our goal is to inform you about all the great things that UCSB has to offer so that you can make an informed college choice.
Does this mean I have been admitted? Who was invited to the reception?
Your invitation does not indicate that you have been admitted. However, invitations were only sent to our highest achieving applicants in select regions.
Must I attend in order to be considered for admission to UCSB?
The receptions are designed to provide information about UCSB. You are not required to attend in order to be considered for admission.
Can I just show up or should I RSVP?
Please RSVP to let us know that you will be joining us. Your RSVP will allow us to properly plan for the correct amount of seats and refreshments. Hotels do fill up fast and there is no waitlist. The RSVP website is kept up-to-date with capacity information, so if your preferred event is full, please continue to check the website for open spots.
@jjmama the locations of the receptions are Washington DC, New York City, Costa Mesa, Los Angeles and San Jose.
@lkg4answers @Gumbymom I guess we’ll just wait because we are OOS. About what dates are they?
@Gumbymom Hello, if I wasn’t invited to the Chancellor’s Reception, do I still have a chance for regent. I got the regent invitation for UCLA and my stats are pretty surely top 1% in all respects from extracurriculars to test scores, to GPA.
@mafi4rmy: Yes, if you are invited to the Chancellor’s reception, you are in the running for Regents.
