****UCSB Admissions 2021****

@Gumbymom lol i guess my question is if i don’t get invited, am i still in the running for regent.

@mafi4rmy: Sorry, misread the post. The Chancellor’s reception is only in some select areas as posted in #79 so if you are not in that region, you may not be invited but you can still get Regents. Getting Regents at one UC does not guarantee you will get it for the others, since each UC has their own criteria for selecting the Regent Scholars.

@gumbymom  yeah but from previous years, I heard that only applies to extremely competitive schools like uc berkeley and la. I live around san jose so I guess Im out of the running for regent.

@mafi4rmy:
The Selection Process
The Regents Scholars selection committee conducts a comprehensive review of the freshman applicant pool to determine the student’s strength and breadth of academic preparation. Selection is based on a thorough review of the admissions application, including, but not limited to test scores and grades. To be eligible for the Regents Scholarship, you must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or a non-citizen student qualifying under California Assembly Bills 130 or 131 with outstanding academic qualifications. Only students who fall under these categories are eligible for the Regents Scholarship.
All freshmen admitted for the fall quarter at UCSB are considered for the Regents Scholarship, based on their UC Application for Admission. No additional information is required. UCSB typically offers the scholarship to students within the top two percent of admitted freshmen. Students are notified by U.S. Mail in early March if they have been selected.

So if UCSB notifies by mail, then you are still in the running.

@Gumbymom thanks for the info, as long as there’s a chance I’m happy.

@neta427 congrats on your acceptance! ucsb looks like a fantastic school. I received an invitation two days ago and plan on attending the one in DC. if you don’t mind me asking…were you in-state or out-of-state at the time? ive heard it isn’t a guaranteed admission for out-of-state kids so I’m sorta worried they gonna do me dirty >:(

ah same!! I’m planning on attending the one in DC. and I’ve heard the same exact thing about how if you’re not in-state, getting the invitation doesn’t guarantee admission…I’m terrified. But I hope they’ll surprise us with an announcement we got in at the reception

" I’ve heard the same exact thing about how if you’re not in-state, getting the invitation doesn’t guarantee admission…"

I really don’t see how it could be guaranteed for in-state but not for out of state. The invitation does not require you to attend a certain reception based on where you live. It merely lists 5 different receptions, 3 in California, one in D.C. and one in NYC, and asks the student to register online for the “reception of his choice.” So, my daughter, who is from NYC, could attend the Los Angeles reception if she chooses. Therefore if any of the receptions signify guaranteed admission, they all must.

@rtran99 @eaa7390 I also don’t see how the receptions would differ… I was in-state but you have to remember that you were invited because you were a “top applicant.” So it would literally make no sense for them to give you that recognition and still reject you… I’d say you can count on the fact that you have been admitted

when are we expecting decisions to be released?

@voltthorn March 21 for most freshman applicants. I don’t believe they’ll be releasing anymore “accepted” decisions until then, other than the already mailed-out Chancellor’rs Reception invitations.

When do regents come out? With the decision or is there notification beforehand?

@Avancer @emli8100 I think they mail out Regents in early March?

@wormholes makes sense, lol I’m definitely not getting that. Aren’t people who get Regents usually the ones invited to Chancellor’s?

@Avancer I wouldn’t say that haha. I think it is still possible to get Regents without being invited to the reception. I’m hopeful that that’s the case, anyway…I got CHP at UC Irvine so I’m hoping that UCSB Regents isn’t totally out of reach…

Also @Avancer dont lose hope, most of the letters for chancellor’s came out last week but somehow, maybe my letter got lost in the mail but my letter for chancellor’s just came this week in the mail

I’m in the same boat as you, wormholes. Got CHP at UCI so i’m crossing my fingers for Regents at SB!
