UCSB and Cars?

Although I'm still waiting to hear back from two more schools (my original top two choices), I'm heavily leaning towards SIRing to UCSB. The more I hear about and learn about the school, the more I fall in love with it and can see myself being happy here. My concern is how bringing a car would affect me living there.

I am a transfer student who is more likely than not going to apply for campus housing. I think the options for transfers are between San Rafael & Manzanita, or Westgate / El Dorado / Santa Ynez. I also am brining my car with me - no question about that. The thing is, I've read somewhere that only 5% of students bring their cars with them. Is this a gross exaggeration? And if not, what are the reasons for such a low statistic?

Please post the pros and cons of bringing a car with you to UCSB and if there are any housing options that work best if you have a car? This is also kind of beside the topic but if people could post general summaries on the five aforementioned housing options, that would be great. Especially keeping in mind that I am a transfer student. Thanks!

apparently it cost $300 to keep a car there, and not to mention most things are within biking distance. I would just take a reliable bike there.

5% sounds kinda low considering how many cars there are in IV.
san raf has a big parking lot.
