UCSB appeal 2018

Hey guys! I’m thinking about filing an appeal to UCSB after getting rejected. I’m creating this thread for anyone else who is considering that too so we can keep each other updated on the status and everything! You can mention your stats, reasons for appeal, etc… below

I am in the waitlist. I will write an appeal letter and prepare recommendation letters .

@HAXIIII Hey! So my only concern about this year’s possibility of getting off the waitlist/appeal overturned is that there might not be any room left. The stats for the amount of admissions at UCSB and just the UC system in general is insane this year so I’m afraid there won’t be any more room :frowning: What are your thoughts?

Don’t be afraid. I will go to the admission office next week in order to get more information about this year’s admission. The possibility of getting in varies each year. Just be optimistic

@HAXIIII Great thanks so much! Please keep me updated : )

Hey guys, i got rejected and will do an appeal. Stats: UC GPA:4.0 UW GPA:3.79 SAT:1200, so a little lower. My dad is an alumni and I didn’t include everything in my application. What are you writing your appeal on?

Hey guys, I got rejected from ucsb applying as comp sci. My stats are:
35 ACT, 1490 SAT
4.23 UC GPA/3.81 UW
8 AP Classes + 1 UC weighted class
AP Chem- 5, AP Psych-5, AP Euro-4, AP Physics-3, AP Physics C, Bio, Econ, and Calc BC planned
My ECs include:
Volunteer-based inclusive athletic program for special needs children devoted to establishing social and athletic skill (all 4 years)
Varsity HS Track and Field all 4 years (2nd fastest 100m record in school history and qualified for regionals in junior year)
Trained with an elite track Club for 3 years (co-trained with collegiate athletes)
Represented club in USATF PA Junior Olympic Qualifiers last summer
Secretary of two clubs devoted to assisting special ed community at school and community
AP Scholar with Honor and got paid for a couple years as a middle school tutor
My ECS arent that much but i hoped my focus on track and my volunteer endeavors for the special ed community wouldve compensate for that. Guess not.
I am clueless on how to start my appeal though.

@cornelius73 There are some good YouTube videos about what to include. You need to make sure there is new information to present and provide proof transcripts etc

@cornelius73 Did you get admitted anywhere for CS? Your appeal might get you a spot in L&S but isn’t it kind of pointless if you want to study CS?

@cornelius73 I would just start by explaining the new information that you left out in your original application and how that makes you a stronger applicant for their school. I also wouldn’t spend so much time trying to use the most advanced vocabulary or flowery writing - just state it.

@cornelius73 @Sadie145 @HAXIIII Thankful to have you guys in the process so we can keep each other updated on appeal notification dates. Will you guys appeal to any other UC’s?

Hey, I’m appealing to UCSB too. For the letter of recs, do we have to ask our teachers to print them out so we can put them in our envelope?

Yes everything must me in one envelope including updated transcripts.

Hi. I want to appeal also. 4.1 weighted - 32 ACT - lots of EC but essay was weak. UCSB along with so many on this blog has been my dream school for so long. I never thought I would be so disappointed. The worst part is I didn’t even get weight listed… I imagine all those will be cleared and who knows if the “not admitted” will even have a chance this year. I truly wish everyone here so much luck.

@ucsbcandi I didn’t get waitlisted either :frowning: Do you know if all the appeals even get read?

i don’t know if all of the appeals get read. i would imagine they start with the waitlisted and go from there depending on how many spots they may or may not have. does anyone know?

Who do we write the letter out to?

@Copywroted I think it’s to the admissions board or you can say “To whom it may concern”

Anyone heard back from an appeal yet?

@WinstonZayne My daughter’s still says pending. They received it April 2nd.
