i recently got rejected from my top choice school ucsb and i am definitly appealing. i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and advice on what to include in the appeal and what not to say. i dont have any new or compelling information, so im kind of in trouble. help a sister out. thanks

Higher GPA this semester than last?
Misreported income (higher than true income)?
New awards/leadership positions?

Good luck!

I would also like to know of any tips for appealing

That's the appeal process for ALL UCs.

i know the process, but i was wondering what are some good things to say, how the essay should be, what not to say...stuff like that. thanks

I'm also wondering if I should appeal to UCSB. It was my top choice and sadly I didn't get in. My stats are 3.8 UC GPA, 1320 SAT 690 math 630 verbal. 570 math 2c and 580 writing. Also, a had a very good essay about raising a guide dog. Is this worth my time? I got into Davis, Santa Cruz, and UCR on the scholarship thing.

depends on ur major. if davis has a good program for ur major i say go there, if ucsb has an awesome program for ur major u should consider appealing.

How exactly do we initiate an appeal?

Well, I'm applying as Undecided. Do you guys think I have a shot at getting an appeal through though?

i think im going to appeal to ucsb too..... but im still waiting on ucb and ucd

A-rob, you should appeal. I'm 100% you'll get in as long as you tell them how much you've been looking forward to attend UCSB. Your stats are pretty good so there's no reason for them to deny your appeal.

During appeal period, what really happens is that UCSB, UCI, UCD, UCSC and UCR are bombarded with appeals from students who didn't get in to any of the UC campuses. So the applicants' average GPA should be lower. Your application will stand out because of your high GPA and SAT.

As for you soccerplayer, I'm ont sure what your stats are. With UCSB winning 2nd place at the NCAA Soccer tournament lastyear, you should talk about what you can contribute to the campus...maybe soccer? Tell them you're very interested about UCSB's soccer program etc.... You might wanna read about UCSB' mission and write about it. Good luck guys!

so are these uc campuses really selective in appeals??

Not sure butif u look hot attach a face pic with your appeal and you'll probably get in. Too many hot men and women here at UCSB. Makes me think sometimes that the admission decisions are rigged!!

^ are you serious??

thanks for the advice. I think I'm gonna go through with the appeal process.

was that really serious advice?? really??

absolutely not... how would they know what people look like? Just do your best to say why you want to be a SB over all other options.

Good luck!

what would be a good option??

Don't beg to be admitted. Point out all the strength you could think of about UCSB that make you wanna enroll here... but please, don't mention Isla Vista lol.

About the hot picture comment, it never hurts if you're hot. =) But seriously I still wonder why there are so many hotties here at UCSB. Very distracting! I don't know how many times I almost had a bike accident for not paying attention of where I'm going hehehh...

BTW, send your letter of appeal ASAP. The later you send it the least likely you're going to get a good financial aid package if you're accepted!!!! When they receive your letter of appeal you're online status would change to " Appeal decision pending" so you'll have another ounce of hope =)
