ucsb appeal

so how many of you guys ended up sending out an appeal? i called them and they said they wont respond until after may 1st, which means their appeal process is pretty much a waiting list.

do you think they’ll be some available spots for some good appeals to be granted?

My appeal status changed to: “Not approved”. :frowning:
You guys should check it out.

how do u check it appeals decision? Is there a website? Do they send u an email?

has anyone herd about the status of their appeal yet?

supposedly a few people have been denied. i havent heard of any ones granted. mine is still pending.

bumping this for the new students.

I have a 3.5 and an 1810 SAT. I am pretty set on marine biology, but i got rejected from sb for it. also i didn’t apply to csulb(stupid me). If i right my appeal praising their marine bio program and throw in some stuff i did when i volunteered at the beach, would this be compelling enough?

^ i dont think it hurts to try if there’s nothing more than that :open_mouth: (in my opinion)
im appealing too! ): does anyone know how this is done though… like do i just send them a letter or is there a form where i can fill out like UCI’s?
and do you think its okay if i talk about how involved i was with my extracurricular stuff and how it affected my school work but i ended up learning how to juggle both? (shown with the slightly better grades 2nd semester junior year)

did anyone end up getting in with their appeal?

@Juaneiro I sent in my appeal on Saturday so I don’t think they have received all of their appeals yet. I was wait listed and my portal says all wait listed applicants will hear of their decision after May 1st and definitively by May 31st, so I’m assuming that will be the same for those who were rejected and appealed?

Has anyone from previous years appealing their decision been accepted? Im appealing this year with a fairly average SAT and good GPA. Plus ive heard about someone taking summer CC classes and then being accepted as a freshman for this 2012-13 year. HOW does that happen?!

bumping this thread as well

so did you guys who appealed in the previous years manage to get in?
i plan on appealing and my stats are 3.73 gpa and a 30 on my ACT/1900 SAT score.

I got waitlisted and actually wanted to just write them an email telling them that ucsb is my top choice and how badly i want to go, but now i am thinking maybe i should appeal?

i do not have any really significant new info though, so no new test scores etc. just some more ECs, i received an award from my school last week, and my senior year grades so far, so i do not know if that would be enough to appeal? I would also attach two teacher recs. and maybe my transcripts…?

what would you guys say is my best option at this point? send them an email emphasizing how badly i want to go or sending in an appeal?

Sending an email talking about how badly you want to go is a waste of your time. Admissions are not based on gauging how intensely an applicant desires to attend. Furthermore they know that while the disappointment of being turned away is painful and real, in a few months those who are denied find themselves back on their feet happily enrolled somewhere else. So emotional emails are not going to change anyone’s mind in the admission office.

Your only chance of changing their mind is to appeal.

yes but I don’t have any hardships or significantly improved SAT scores or any errors with my application, so I can’t appeal?

All I would have, as I have said before, is the award, good senior grades, new ECs, and then very good teacher recs that I could attach. But somebody said they don’t see senior grades as a reason to appeal, so really writing an email emphasizing my interest in the school is my only shot. I am sure many others are doing the same, and I don’t want to feel like I did not try hard enough to get in

is appealing based partially on the fact that i was bullied during sophomore year, which caused a grade drop a valid reason ?

^^^Seriously? I honestly can’t tell if you are being serious… [and if you are I am sorry, and no that is not a valid reason) Anyways, unless you have a SAT score you forgot to send in or you forgot to tell them of some BIG and i mean BIG accomplishment you have completed (even then they may just say too bad), or you had some crazy experience which affected your grades, you are S.O.L. There are just simply too many other qualified kids that got denied/ put on the waitlist. I am sure you got into another good school, good luck guys…I am not trying to get your hopes down, its just highly unlikely they will accept you unless something major happened to you.

it is a serious question… I’ve heard other people get their appeal granted for some other reason that wasn’t them misreporting a score etc.

plus that is not the only reason i have, it is with a combination of other things.

All they really care is if something MAJOR happened to you. If there is one thing I’ve learned since I have been at college, it is that most of the tough obstacles you have to overcome, aren’t **** compared to what others have gone through. You’d be surprised at what other people have gone through, and these are the only people they are accepting off of appeals. I really am coming across as a ******, but I am just trying to put it into perspective for you. They denied 1000s of kids, with probably equal if not better stats to yours. Maybe if you told them you forget to mention you had to work 30 hours a week while in high school. I don’t know anyone that made it in off an appeal, and yes I know many that appealed. Good luck in your attempt to appeal man, I really am just trying to be realistic with you, whether it sounds mean or not.

i understand it is slim to none, believe me… I just find this more productive than the rest of the ■■■ im gonna be doing senior year, and all i asked is if that was a valid reason that i could put in my appeal.
