UCSB as a safety school?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been considering UCSB as a possible safety school but I’m not entirely sure if my GPA and test scores will allow me to set it as so. I would like to pursue music in college and the future.

Here is some basic info:

  • Unweighted GPA: 3.87
  • Weighted GPA: 4.5
  • ACT: 31
  • SAT Subject Math II: 750

Any feedback would be great, positive or negative; thanks!

What is your capped UC GPA?

Since Music is your major, your chances will be more dependent upon your audition results than on your stats although having competitive stats may give you an edge.

Here is the Freshman profile for 2017 Overall and not major specific:

GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students

High School GPA UC capped weighted: 3.96 - 4.25
ACT Composite Score: 28 - 33
ACT English Language Arts: 26 - 31
SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing: 610 - 700
SAT Mathematics: 600 - 750
SAT Essay: 15 - 19

With an overall admit rate of 32.8%, you cannot call UCSB a safety. More like a Match to High Match.
