I just learned about the CCS Program at UCSB. If I choose to apply, it would be for biology. Any input of what the rigor is/ what the overall experience is? I’m curious if it is something worth doing and what the benefits of are. I’m applying to UCSB to be a freshman in fall of 2017. Thanks:)
What do you want to get out of your undergrad experience? What do you think you may want to do next - after your undergrad degree? The CCS Biology program is specifically tailored for students who want to dive into research and most go on to graduate degrees. Unless you fit this profile you are probably a better fit for L&S Biology - the L&S honors program if your academics are strong.
I’m interested in entering the medical field, and I would really love opportunities for research. I will probably not be pursuing a phD however.
if you plan to study medicine, focus on finding a good premed program. CCS is where you go if you are truly serious about studying for a PhD and becoming a scientist etc and don’t want to do research only to become attractive for med schools. For that you are better off at a CLS. Plus bear in mind CCS is a very unusual college. Grads from CCS wont quite fit the mold med schools expect
