UCSB Chances

I am very interested in the Physics program at UCSB. If you have any suggestions for what I should be doing between now and Senior year, I am all ears. :wink: Here’s my stats:

Cumulative UC Weighted GPA (as of Junior year): 4.3

Extracurricular Activities:

  • BSA (Achieved Eagle Scout my Sophomore year and have been a patrol leader for 3 years, and am currently a Junior Patrol leader)
  • School Jazz Band (I play three different saxaphones and piano)
  • School Drumline (I will have a leadership role Senior year)
  • President of Chess Club (2 years)
  • President of AMC Math Team (2 years)
  • Church Youth Group Leader (4 years)
  • NHS

Service (100+ Hours by Senior year):

  • I have worked with my Parish’s food distribution projects
  • I am a big brother at the Boys and Girls club

SAT (my weakest point): Assumed score = 1800

  • I will be retaking the SAT this summer. I will also take subject tests in Math and Physics.

Terrific GPA and rigorous courses. Can’t tell for sure until you get your real SAT scores. They can never be assumed; it may be above or below the 1800 mark. However, let’s say that you theoretically got 1800. I would say that it would be a high match/low reach, considering the college’s average SAT score is 1925 http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/santa-barbara/freshman-profile/ . However, if you have a solid essay, I would say you should have a pretty good chance! Good Luck!

Retake the SAT and get at least a 2000 to be safe! Other things look great

Agree with above posters^^. Also UCSB reviews applications with 50% emphasis on GPA and Test scores with other 50% based on essays and EC’s, so spend time on your essays. Good Luck.
