Okay, UC admissions are officially a crap-shoot! Grr. While I’m very happy you got in dacrzazn93 (seriously, congrats!), I don’t understand how you got in and I didn’t! We have the same exact stats!! I even have kickass ECs!
But still, a very, very large congratulations to everybody (especially you, dacrzazn93, sorry to single you out haha). I’m just bitter (:

Haha idk…I think its cuz i took like 4 APs and 2 weighted classes 10-11th or something, and my school is pretty well known. It could also be cuz I picked undecided…might be easier to get into first than what you picked. Sorry you didn’t get in…didn’t really deserve UCI either…but you’ll be fine. :)

None of my sophomore honors classes counted as a +1 (explain that one to me) and for junior year, I took IB: English, History, Chemistry, Math and then Band (no honors) and Geography/Digital Photo (needed to fill requirements, no honors). God damn me and my bitterness. It’s okay, though. Life moves on

Congrats again (:

Thanks (:. Well theres that one page with your school’s classes on it somewhere online. If it has a star or something it’s +1. I think IB classes are +1…IB people are beast. I think I’m going to go to UCI though because biology is ranked higher there and it’s closer to my home…can’t seem to afford my privates unfortunately. I like Disneyland, Spectrum, 24 Hour Fitness, etc. anyways :P. It’s all good haha. Good luck!

Haha, yeah. I checked “doorways” when I was applying, and even though the class name said honors, it didn’t have the yellow star. I can’t afford privates, either (unless they want to give me beast monies) anddddd I LOVE DISNEYLAND. I was suppose to go yesterday to renew my pass, but it was pouring rain!! Okay, did that cover everything that could be responded to? (:

Yeah I believe so lol. For our school it can’t be I honors…it can’t be II honors…it has to have a dumb III honors at the end of the class name to be weighted. Privates are gonna have to be giving me more than a full ride to get me to go… Gonna get that annual pass too yeeahhh.

My UC GPA? Like a 3.0-3.2. My weighted GPA is a 3.7. I did get a 3.7UW GPA and a 4.3W GPA my senior year, though. I had a horrible high school career (tons and tons of bad things), but I didn’t really capitalize on that in my app. I definitely mentioned it, but in no way was it the high point.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I was invited to the Reception for the highest applicants and I couldn’t go, but I heard that everyone there was accepted. And in the online notification yesterday, it said I was accepted to the Honors Program! I didn’t get into UCLA, but I got in to UCSD to my first-choice college and first-choice major. Congrats to everyone else who got in! And for those who didn’t, remember that UC admissions are very numbers based, and know that there will be something better in store for you!

Alright, so I’ve been admitted with an Undercleared major, but I noticed I haven’t taken the SAT subject tests, looking at admissions I see they say you must take both SAT and SAT II. Do I need to take the subject tests and submit them? Or will i be okay?

not to sound mean or arrogant, but it would be nice to see who got denied as well. im sure a lot of people reading this are HS juniors trying to get a better clue of who gets in or not.

^Okay, well I was waitlisted.

Oh, and in-state, white, female

@socaldad I’m sorry your son didn’t get into UCSB, but his GPA and tests are definitely on the low side for the school’s standards. I’m surprised your college counselor didn’t point that out. Ours was very clear what were considered target, reach and safety schools, so we’ve had no huge surprises. Our counselor sees hundreds of kids, but we also had to do our homework. I don’t mean to sound patronizing, but had you been told the averages for UCSB, I think you might have been better prepared for the outcome. CSUF is a fantastic school (several successful family members attended) and I’ve heard good things about NAU, too. It’s getting harder to transfer in to UCs from JCs, so I would recommend looking at a 4 year school. The kids we know who got into USD 2015 have higher GPAs and tests than your son, so I would look up that info, too, so you are prepared. This is all a learning experience for each of us. We were blessed to have been told to apply to a mix of schools, and not to get our hopes up, and it’s worked well so far. Best of luck to you and your son.

Decision: Accepted at Reception

yea unfortunately thats how these types of threads work, 99% of the people replying are those who were accepted, its understandable that people who were rejected would not want to respond
in general though CC isnt a great place to get an idea of an “average applicant.” most of the people here are high over achievers, and are going to have much higher GPA’s/test scores/etc than the average applicant to the school. the best resources to use when deciding if your stats are high enough to apply to a certain school are collegeboard and the common data set in my opinion
