Anyone appealed that was on the wait list ? My appeal was not approved but I’m still on the wait list…

@Averaa how do you know your appeal was not approved? did the appeal status part say denied? i appealed and i am on the waiting list

@timetochange yeah on the appeal status it says not approved

@Averaa i think that means your appeal didnt work to get you in, but there is still a chance for you to get in through the waitlist

@Averaa also did your appeal status change today?

has anyone heard back today?

I appealed but am not on the wait list- my appeal is still pending?

No :(

^for the person who asked if anyone heard back yet.
& If it says “decision pending” on your appeal status then you’re good

I have a feeling that since the first batch gets a week to decide, the second batch will hear back this weekend…

@avt123 yeah that makes sense, and to be more specific, the first batch came out around May 3, so the upcoming batch should be a week after which is May 10

Does anyone know someone that was on the waiting list and got rejected already? I’m dying to know :(

JUST GOT ACCEPTED! They did NOT send me an email btw, I just checked the portal and it said I was admitted. My appeal status said “approved” so it may have been that rather then getting off the waitlist (which I was on). GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

Wow @akuzzy CONGRATS! I hope I hear from them soon. It’s stressing me out.

@akuzzy It’s so great!!! May I ask your academic score?

Thanks guys! Yeah here are my stats :
GPA: 3.5
ACT: 32 (34 on math and English sections)
SAT: 2060
SAT subject: math 2: 750 lit: 670
APs: world history: 3 us history: 3 ap calculus AB: 5 ap lang: 5 (and I’m taking 4 APs this year as well)
Intended major: pre psychology
ECs: president of a club, tutor kids in Russian, and I’m in an honors society
Personal statements were good but not super inspiring

So obviously my test scores were my strong point and my GPA was my weak point, but I wrote a really heartfelt appeal explaining the reason behind my lower grades and why ucsb was right for me. Honestly my appeal was really personal and meaningful and I think that’s what caught their eye. I also included 2 new teacher recs from this year from teachers who love me and a new transcript , because I bumped my GPA wayyy up to a 4.1 this year, which also must have helped a lot.

I’m pretty sure they are still ‘making up their class’, so if someone with stats and background similar to yours declined, there might be a slot open in ‘your group’, so to speak. I don’t think they ever just ‘take the highest’ --they are the one UC that gives only 50% weight to academics. I think they are looking for a class mix.

And I think the essay is important. It is your one chance to ‘make a connection’. Students at UCSB are very active one way and another, and I do think they look for vitality and intellectual excitement.

Is anybody who is waitlisted and appealed still waiting?

I give up, it’s the 10th lol

I don’t think we will hear back until Monday.
