What is admission by examination? Sorry but i have read your posts a few places and do not understand the term. Is it for home-schooled students?

oh, just relying on ACT/SAT scores. Ah ok. Well I am surprised that option is offered at all to anyone with a conventional HS education - must be intended to allow homeschooled kids a chance to apply to a weaker UC maybe? Or for someone who needs to explain inability to have a great weighted GPA or lack of enough UC a-g courses. Probably not meant for someone going to a regular HS who has great test scores but not enough a-g courses and/or a weak GPA.

Also the admissions are holistic - if they did not like your kid’s essays or ECs - that could instead be the reason - not “admission by examination”? Hard to jump to conclusions only because you think your kid had a great set of test scores. I have seen 2300 SAT kids not getting UCLA either. Your case doesn’t seem that unusual.
