My bad - I believe I put CSE for an alternate major for UCSB in particular.
Thank you for the replies!!
@camille004 Don’t lose hope quite yet. I was rejected from SB last year but was accepted to UCSD. My stats were similar to yours- 3.96 UC GPA, 1450 SAT, 31 ACT. The UCs decision processes are different between each school. Even if things don’t play out in your favor, you have community college. Take advantage of it and finish your GEs while saving money, then transfer. Not at all a bad idea.
Accepted!!! (Pre Political)
1400 SAT
3.86 UC GPA 4.3 Complete weighted
3 year dual sport varsity athlete
I think my acceptance came from how I tied my involvement with my key extracurriculars (MUN, education project in Ghana) with my passion and drive for politics in my essays.
Good luck to everyone for their other schools I hope it all works out for you guys!
S waitlisted. 4.3 GPA 1440 SAT, Varsity Athlete (captain), great ECs, accepted at all other schools so far including Michigan, UCD, Tulane. Bummer especially since I went to UCSB and have sold my kids on how great it is!
S accepted (regents)
Mechanical Eng
1550 SAT
4.6W GPA (14 APs)
780 Math 2, 770 Physics
Lots of leadership in ECs.
He’s very excited especially after being waitlisted at UCD.
D was accepted for political science with 4.12 UW, 4.00 W, 1510 SAT. ASB President for Junior and Senior years; track and cross country varsity; lot of EC’s.
Correction. 4.12 UC GPA and 4.00 UW. Her HS didn’t offer a lot of APs. That’s why her W GPA is not that high.
@Napafolie That’s nuts! I think it’s crazy that California seniors can’t really consider many uc’s “safe” anymore, considering the fact that they’re public, state schools.
impressive @aaamomo3 ! congrats! my son has similar stats and was accepted to ucsb mech. where else did your apply? what does he like about ucsb’s program specifically?
Thank you @BeCheap4me2 He applied to 11 engineering programs and has officially heard from 4 (2 admits, 1 rejection, 1 waitlist) and received a scholarship interview at one other. Lots of waiting to be done. Only 2 more weeks and then the fun will come once all the offers are on the table. He is researching the program at UCSB and we will likely visit soon.
@amira234 Agreed. However, when I was in graduate school over 20 years ago, it was made clear that the impending boom of college applicants in the coming decades required a concerted effort to grow programs at state schools to meet future demand. Some UCs have well more than doubled their UG size since 1990… things are feeling more competitive.
Hi, I’m late but I was accepted!!!
1370 SAT (700 math/670 English)
3.81 UC gpa
President of 2 clubs, volunteer at local museum, founder of a writing center on campus.
Essays: talked about my depression and struggle to overcome my anxiety as well as my passion for reading and helping others.
Honestly I was worried I’d get rejected and I’m still shocked I got in while people with better stats didn’t—I’m trying my best not to feel guilty for getting in. Overall, I’m excited I got in but this was only my first decision out of thirteen!! Best of luck to everyone else
@camille004. Don’t feel bad. You are picking hard major. Actually, my S was rejected with much better profile…
@fsnake01
Be proud of your acceptance. The UCs have holistic review, and the essays matter. Based on the results in this thread, you can see that statistics are definitely not the only key to UC admission. Good luck at UCSB or wherever you end up!
@aaamomo3
My son has very similar stats to yours:
1540 SAT
4.55 UW GPA (12 APs)
800 SAT Math 2
Good ECs, math tutor, mentoring, etc.
Applied to UCSB in mechanical engineering, but got accepted as undeclared L & S (with honors program). However, he was offered Regents and honors at UC Davis (also in mech. eng). So weird! Fortunately, my son isn’t really set on engineering anyway, and is happy with his UCSB offer.
Waitlist question-on average how long as someone waited to hear if they were accepted off the waitlist? Or do people hear in waves again? Do they email you or do you have to keep checking your portal again? Any info is awesome TY
@college2019bound: Usually waitlisted applicants have to wait until after the May 1 SIR date so UCSB will know how spots are still available. Waitlisted results can come out in waves and usually decisions will be posted on the portal first before the email.
Hello Ladies,
My daughter has been rejected from UCSB and we are very disappointed. She has a 4.5 GPA and a 1520 on the SAT. She applied for Chicano Studies, thinking it would give her a better chance of acceptance. To our dismay, it did not. We are genuinely concerned being that this was the only school that she applied to. Any ideas on what our next steps should be? Is it worth appealing the decision?
You might as well try, or have her take a gap year & apply again (this time to more schools, UCs are never safety schools) @motherof13 I hope everything works out!
