So my son gives me the news that although he got As for his other classes, he got a D in Physics - @crappy@ teacher apparently didn't help.

He put a TAG app in for UCSB for next year and Physics is supposed to be a Pre-Req for engineering including CompSci.

He can retake Physics (or at least try, the waitlist is full) but there is no way for him to take the subsequent second Physics class as he would have to do the original Physics again first.

All other pre-reqs will be complete, no other Ds or less, GPA around 3.55.

Is this an absolute showstopper in terms of TAG for UCSB CompSci? If they reject his TAG, will they automatically look at it as a non-TAG app?

He has also applied (non TAG) to UCD and UCSC, I guess that would include UCSB non-TAG as well?

Bump, any experience with this?

well it depends, is compsci impacted at ucsb? if it is, then you must fulfill the requirements prior to transfer. if it’s not, then your son can just take physics when he gets over there (but that might amount to an extra year of UC tuition to cover the physics series, because he can’t start upper division courses until he finishes those.) his TAG might be rescinded though, but he’ll still be considered for regular admission.

for me, i’m going to be a nutrition major at davis (i got TAG, too.) but i’m not going to be able to finish o-chem in time, and i really don’t want to stay another year just to take 1 class. the reps at davis told me that i will be accepted with no problems, but just that it will take me 3 years to graduate because i have to take the o-chem series.

so it’s up to you, really…pay for an extra year at UC or stay around.
