I was recently accepted to both of these schools and I applied as a Computer Science major. At UCSB I got accepted to the CoE while at UCSD I was admitted as undeclared. I was leaning more towards UCSD until I saw that I was undeclared. I understand I can finish my GEs and Pre Reqs and try to apply to the CS major at UCSD but it isn’t a guarantee that I will get in even if my grades are good enough because it is an impacted major. Is it worth going to UCSD undeclared over UCSB where I’m already in the major I want and risk not even being admitted into the major? Will I be able to get a good job if I go to UCSB for my bachelor’s?
If you’re dead set on CS, go to Santa Barbara. The risk is too high at San Diego.
Good Lord, why do you think you wouldn’t be able to get a good job if you go to UCSB? Any UC looks good on a resume.
I’m sorry I guess I’m just paranoid haha. I heard a lot of people say UCSD grads will get better/more job offers because it is higher ranked than UCSB. I also heard that UCSB’s computer science wasn’t that great however idk how accurate this statement is.
There’s nothing at all wrong with UCSB CS. At an undergraduate level, there isn’t much to distinguish most CS programs unless they involve some kind of specialty like security or games or something.
Ok thanks for your input simba9 this calms my worries a lot and makes me more comfortable with choosing UCSB!
