Hi! I'm a junior who lives in CA and my goal is to get into ucsb and do something related to art/design/music.
I think creative studies will definitely fit me but I have almost no information about the admission, chance, etc.
I don't know if i have to submit a portfolio for music composition either. idk anything, basically lol.
I heard that you have to get accepted first and then your intended major matters but I focused all my life in music so my grades aren't that great ;o is that going to hurt my chance?
Does anyone know about this field? My dream school is ucsb so I really want to have a great chance when i apply!

Here is the admissions info for CCS:

You apply as a music major and must submit a portfolio.

Just a random question… for the portfolio, does the composition piece has to be a classical piece?

That’s a great question for the CCS admissions office. I know they prefer to be emailed. They’re swamped right now but if you email in May, you will probably get your answer.

IMO, CCS is for people who are very sure of their majors. You list music as well as art/design. It might be better to apply to Letters and Science, where you will have more flexibility to explore both.

Ok. Thank you so much (:
by any chance, do you know how hard it is to get in? Is it very competitive?
Even though you’re planning to apply to music/art… do they look at your grade/SAT a lot? Cuz I only got 1900 on the SAT… :(

If you apply to CSS and don’t get in, they consider you for the college of letters and sciences. I think CSS looks mainly at how brilliant you are in your chosen field, once you are above the general recs. A 1900 SAT could be ok with a gpa that fits their profile. But the CSS is a very special program and they do expect the students to have direction mapped.
