Hi all. I am planning to tag into ucsb econ. Ive taken most igetc classes ...the hard ones r out the way!

What gpa do i need for my econ majornrelated classes to transferr only as an econ major?

At least a 2.75 with no individual grade less than a C in major pre-reqs.

From assist.org:

“Transfer students who wish to declare the Economics pre-major must complete the
following courses with a 2.75 grade-point average, with no individual grade less
than “C”: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and one of the two options; one
calculus course and one statistics course or two calculus courses (see below).”

Also, keep in mind that you are admitted to the pre-major at UCSB. Admission to the full major is not guaranteed:

“Students are admitted initially to the pre-major. Admission into the full major
is contingent upon completion of pre-major courses with a grade point average of
2.85 or above in any remaining pre-major courses completed at the University of
California and with no grade lower than C. Note that UCSB’s Writing 109 must be
completed with a grade of “C” or higher but will not be used in computing the
pre-major GPA.”

There will be one class at UCSB that you will have to take (ECON 10A) and get at least a B (not a B-) to be granted admission to the full major. If you do not get at least a solid B in that class, you will not be able to be an Economics major.

All of these requirements apply to the Economics & Accounting major at UCSB as well.

My friend told me he had a 3.4 …
But a 3.167 in his major pre reqs and didnt get in…i thought it was 2.75 for all majors so i got scared

Are you going to TAG? If this is your first choice, you should. Also, keep n mind that admission to the full major will still not be guaranteed as I listed above.

Yes im going to tag. And by notnguaranteed u mean that if i dont get a B in that one class…and if i do get a b im guaranteed?

My friend tagged with a 3.4 but didnt get in with a major pre req of 3.16…
Why is that?

I dunno? He obviously didn’t apply with all necessary coursework completed. It isn’t too hard: IGETC or GE Breadth done by end of Spring + 60 units by end of Spring + English and Math minimum requirements done by Fall + major pre-reqs done by end of Spring + TAG conditions = acceptance into UCSB Econ/Accounting major.

Im scared ****less ucsb is mydeam…

I have a 3.17 overall and 3.0 alltogether in stats and econ 102…i need econ 101 and 2 more math courses…if i get overall gpa to 3.2 or more and keep pre reqs up at 3.0 or more…am i solid? Still have 30 or so units left barely entering sophmore year

Yes, unfortunately that means if you do not get a B or higher in that one class, you will not be able to be an Economics major or an Economics & Accounting major. You also will not be allowed to repeat the class unless you failed it the first time around. This is at least the policy for now.

Okay, I need one last thing please!

I am looking at the major sheets on my CC website and it says you need Econ 101, 102

and for math it says I need MATH 136, 112 or 103 and 104…

however, for Economics and Accounting… I would need Math 136, 103, 104 or 112

so my problem is that I still need to take math 110 or 102 to gain entry into math 103…which will lead me to 104.

should I bite the dust and do economics 112 and do a regular econ major or stick with econ and accounting…

FOr the major i am taking econ 101 and Acct 101 right now… but again, Im a sophmore in CCC and I still havent taken math 103 and 104…i am 1 class away from math 103 and 2 classes away from 104 as of RIGHT NOW…

am i screwed or do i have plenty of time?

Just follow what ASSIST says about your major.

For UCSB:

You need Microecon, Macroecon, one Stats course, and one Calculus course

OR

Microecon, Macroecon, and TWO calculus courses.

This applies to both the Econ major and the Econ with emphasis in Accounting major.

But my main concern is…do i have time? Im starting sophmore next week. By then rnt i submitting my application? This aemester i didnt take math besides acctg

If you can take those 2 math classes by the end of spring then you can still TAG. However, if you are missing a prerequisite by the end of spring, you will not fulfill TAG and your application will go through regular admissions. All the info is in this link.

http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/pdf/UCSB%20Fall%202013%20TAG.pdf

Also I want to mention that even though admission is 2.75 you must have a 3.2 or higher by the end of Fall 2012. You must also maintain that through spring 2013. This is strictly for econ/econ + accounting. It might apply for others, I dont know. I know for econ it is 3.2.

As long as you have a 3.2, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics and Calculus or two Calculus courses in which you achieved no lower than a ‘C’ and a 2.75+ average, you can TAG.

Lastly, the TAG does not guarantee entry into the major. You can be accepted for TAG yet denied for entry into the major if they deem you not competitive enough.

^^^To be clear, if you meet the TAG requirement for the Econ or Econ/Accounting major, you will be admitted into the PRE-major at UCSB. There, you’ll have to take the remaining few classes and earn a minimum 2.85 in those classes. Then you’ll be admitted into the full major.

I didn’t know that, thank you.
