UCSB Economics major

Is it a good major and what are the career prospects after undergrad economics major?
Please provide some info.

It’s the top major in L&S, lots of accounting courses and great job prospects. It’s highly competitive, lots of ppl are getting cut off after taking pre-major courses because of GPA. Pre-Econ classes are graded on a curve and designed to weed out students, cause not all pre-econ can be accommodated in the major.

I got my BA in Business Econ in the late 80’s and was able to achieve more than I thought possible, becoming a portfolio manager investing institutional money for a large buyside firm. The key though is that you have to keep on grinding after getting your BA. I went on to get an MBA and CFA which helped open doors. If you go into investments you will still have to work harder than the Harvard and Yale folks because doors often open up for them based on pedigree alone. My professors and classmates at UCSB were great. There were also various business clubs that allowed for taking on leadership roles. Go Gauchos !
