UCSB Engineering Missing Requirement

I’ve heard UCSB is pretty strict when it comes to admitting students if they are missing one or more prerequisites. In my case I wouldn’t be able to take a Data Structures course for the Computer Engineering major. I have a pretty high GPA, and the reason I wouldn’t be taking their course equivalent is due to the fact that my school only offers that class in Java, not C++ which they apparently prefer. Do you guys think I should still apply, or should I just give up and not apply because of that missing prereq?

take the java class… implementation of data structures and algorithms are not language dependent.
