I want to transfer to UCSB for physics, however I I'll be completing my second English course in winter intersession which ends on Feb 7. I know that they want the two English classes by fall but if I submit my grade slightly after the Jan 31 deadline, will I be fine? Another option would be if I put in the minimum grade I knew I was guaranteed in the class before it finished. Perhaps a 'B' or 'B-' and then later change it. Would this be a good option or should I just wait?

Thank You

Putting a grade before you earned it is tantamount to lying on your app which I wouldn’t advise. Not necessarily for ethical reasons, but because it could bite you in the butt later on- that is it could cause your admission to be revoked.

The deadline is just that, a deadline. I don’t think the system allows updates after that point. I believe you have the option to note that the class is in progress, and perhaps you can add a comment that it’ll be done on XYZ date, and your current grade is X.

That’s my 2 cents

Thanks. I thought that the deadline was the date where they could guarantee that they would review the updated information. Are you sure its not possible to update it after that and just hope that they might review it anyway?

No I’m not sure, which is why I said 'I don’t THINK" you can update it. I personally wouldn’t put my UC dreams in the hands of “hoping that they review”, but that’s for you to decide :-)

I never tried to update anything after I added my Spring classes and Fall grades, so I don’t know what happens if you try.

Well… There is always the possibility that they might accept me anyway if I can maintain my 4.0 in the Fall. Also as I will finish the class in Feb I could appeal immediately if I was rejected. Is there anyone here who was or knows of someone who was accepted with the 2nd English IP?

UCSB has strict rules about finishing math and eng req by fall. They might let the winter intercession slide as by the time they start looking the grade will be in. But don’t fake a grade. Just put it IP.

They won’t kick you out during the wait period. My daughter had her math IP at UCSB and it didn’t become apparent to them until around Feb when they started to look. By then you will have updated your IP via TAU.

My instinct is they will let it slide because the purpose of the rule is to see a letter grade, which you will have shown. If they reject you can appeal. Many ppl taking a math IP in spring appealed later and were accepted.

But don’t TAG. You will definitely be kicked out and thrown into regular pool - it’s a headache you don’t need and you’ll be wasting a TAG.
