UCSB Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@Cheolf It’s good to remind people that they aren’t all going to hear the same day. I think, because most people heard that day or in the subsequent week, it’s safe to say that Tuesday is when the gun is fired at the starting line. Some of us might get to the end of the race quicker than others, but it all starts at the same time.

@ananguiano Oh I made a typo! I’m currently taking calc 2 in the current spring semester. Once the spring semester ends…I’ll be missing calc 3, differential equations, and linear algebra. Those will be the missing three articulated courses. Math 8, CMPSC 8, WRIT 107A, and PHIL 6 will be missing as well since those courses are not available at my CC. I had a feeling UCLA would be a reach but I felt like giving it a shot. I’ll be more than happy to get into the other UCs. Also, can you show me where it says that tag only applies to all major prep courses completed? I wanted to see if the two majors I applied for were under that conditions of agreement. What are the chances of getting into a secondary major choice if I don’t get into my preferred? Thanks for your feedback!

Preferred: Actuarial Science
Secondary: Statistical Science

Ah, I seem to have been mistaken about major pre-reqs being required for TAG: https://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/docs/default-source/PDFs/ucsb-tag-fall-2016.pdf?sfvrsn=2

So it seems your good for your major  I don’t think UCSB generally really considers secondary majors, few of the UCs do as I understand. I found a pdf at some point that outlined which consider it andwhich don’t but can’t seem to find it anymore.

@anaguiano ohh okay thank you for that follow-up! I just wouldn’t mind going into statistical science if I didn’t get into the actuarial science program. By any chance, do you know if UCSB besides UCLA/CAL would read the personal statement even if they were a TAG applicant?

@BlinkFeed On the UC transfer packet on the UC website, it says that UCSB does not read the personal statement unless it will tip you from a possible acceptance to a definite acceptance. UCSC is the same, I believe.

a week from today, i wonder what my UCSB portal will read

@UCMtoUCSBHopeful Me too. I try to not think about it too much, but I can’t help it lol.

I probably shouldn’t mention it, but today marks the Ides of March.

@UCMtoUCSBHopeful

Hopefully not something along the lines of “All decisions will be posted by April 30.”

@BlinkFeed Here it is on page 35: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/quick-reference-2014.pdf

UCSB does not read personal statements and may accept you into an alternate major on a case-by-case basis. Hope this info helps.

Hello, Political Science / IR major here. I haven’t heard anything yet.
Would you guys advise me if I’m competitive as a transfer student?

GPA: 3.5
Major: Poli.Sci / IR
Applied: All UCs except Merced. and Santa Cruz
Admitted: UC Riverside
IGETC: Will completed by this Spring. (Only 2 subjects were left when I submitted the UC Application)
Pre-Req.: Finished except 1 or 2.
Tag: N/A

  • I had a dramatic grade improvement

Wish you guys the best of luck!

Thank you.

Hey guys just a quick question. I’m wondering if the UC’s at all determine the grades of winter session courses (January 4-28) in the application process? Would be awesome if they did. Thank you!

@thisguy17 It depends on when your winter session ended. Some of the UCs, like Berkeley and UCSD, don’t take any TAU updates after January 31st. If you got it in before then, you’re good to go.

Considering winter intersession grades is at the discretion of the UC. Even if you inputted the grades after the TAU deadline, they may still consider them - or, they may not.

So I had my grades and inputted them in the update on the 30th of January, so I hope I’m good!

@thisguy17 Even if the grades were inputted before the deadline, the UC’s still may not consider them. You can’t really know. They will see them, though, so that’s good.

Are any of you planning on going to Spring Insight/Open house? Or have any of you previously been? I’ve never been so I thought it might be a good chance to go, but do you think it would be better to visit during a “regular” weekend? I live about 5 hours away so i’m trying to decide if a one day trip would be worth it.

@CATransfer2016 It would depend on whether or not I’ve been admitted by that time tbh. I live in LA and don’t own a car so I’d also really have to debate whether or not it’s worth the trip. On the other hand it’s a chance for a mini-holiday for my wife and I if I do decide to go lol same for the UCSC Spring Spotlight you asked about in the other thread.

@ananguiano Yeah that’s probably the best way to decide. My fear is that I won’t receive a decision by then, so I’ll end up going and fall in love with the school and then receive my rejection shortly after haha. It definitely would be a nice weekend trip though!
