Yeah, apps aren’t due for another three months but getting discussion started early can’t hurt. Post your stats/ECs/major, what your situation is, ask for or give advice/chances, etc… Hopefully we can all support each other through another stressful round of college applications.
I don’t have a GPA yet because I’m transferring after one year with AP creds covering the other year, so this fall will be everything for me. Applying as an econ major.
CC student transferring after 3 years
GPA: 3.34, hopefully 3.5 by the end of the fall
Major GPA: 3.0
Major: Chemical Engineering
Prereqs left: O’Chem II, Calc III, Differential Equ., Physics 103,
ECs: Co-Founder of the Robotics Club at my CC, 9 month internship as an “Intern Chemist” (later promoted to Lab Tech for a month) at a Lufthansa electroplating lab, and I just spent a summer at USC doing [microbiology] research.
Also applying to: UCLA, UCB, USC, UCSC, UCI, UCSD, and Stanford.
I’m relying mostly on my ECs and my personal statement. My GPA is a result of working during the semester and a lack of motivation. I also have some APs from high school, probably won’t matter too much at this point.
I might try to find a school in the LA area that offers a course in MATLAB.
@ericeo Damn, 3 years of hard work? I really hope you get into your top schools. Taking all those engineering prereqs sounds tough. I’m no admissions officer, but it seems to me like you’re a good transfer candidate, the GPA being a drawback but I think you make up for it. Good luck dude.
GPA:3.32
Major GPA:3.5
Major: Econ
prereqs left: calc1
Im retaking calc becuase I got an D in it but other than that I got A’s in all econ and accounting classes. Do you guys think they will accept my tag?
@JJammerz Yeah its been a tough 3 years. Thank for the kind words! I guess we’ll find out in the spring. I’m also gonna try to TAG into either UCI or UCSC, so I should get into at least one haha.
Major: Anthropology
UC GPA: 3.91 as of now (3.94 by the end of fall semester if all goes according to plan).
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Will be done in the fall
Major Prep: Completed for UCSB, Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD. Will be done in the fall/spring for all others.
Tap: Yes, will be certified the spring before transfer for UCLA. Berkeley and UCSB don’t have a TAP program at my cc, unfortunately.
Tag: Will be tagging UC Davis when the filing period opens
Units Completed: Summer 2016 - 35 completed. By Fall 2016 - 54 completed. By Winter 2016/17 - 61 completed. By Spring 2017 - 79 completed (If all goes according to plan, if not I’ll still have over 60 units completed by spring before transfer).
W’s: 1 for a music course. My counselor informed me that I needed to take at least 5 honors courses to complete the honors program and TAP (UCLA). I didn’t want to go over 80 transferable units, so I dropped music. Not sure if I should explain that in my application or not… Advice would be appreciated.

@LynAmmo Wow, you have an outstanding application. I think it’s safe to say that you’re a shoo-in for almost all the UCs, and you have a very good shot at Berkeley and UCLA. Not sure about explaining the W. It shouldn’t be that big of a deal I don’t think. Good luck.

I’m pretty much set on getting straight A’s this quarter as I did manage 3 A’s and a B during the summer (although my GPA still isn’t too amazing). Assuming I get straight A’s in the 4 major prep classes I’m taking during this fall 2016, do I have somewhat of a shot at getting in? I don’t hear much about UCSB computer science transfers…
