CC student applying to transfer Fall 2017
Major: Art
Transferable GPA: 3.67 (still in progress)
Major GPA: N/A, will begin taking major prep classes in the winter.
Prereqs left: Pretty much all of them (I know, I’m a fool and I didn’t know I wanted to major in Art until very recently)
IGETC: done
ECs: Volunteer teacher/youth group leader for 5 years now
Also applying to: UCLA, UCI
Does it affect the admission decision if you haven’t finished any of the major prep classes by the time you apply? Like I said, I didn’t know I wanted to major in Art until maybe like a month ago, so I don’t have any major prep classes done. I am planning to complete all of those classes by spring 2017, though.
Thanks!!
Decisions start rolling out from today till the 15th right??
@jaquian For TAG applicants?
Yes I tagged and just got an email to check my decision
Econ major here and I got this.
Thank you for your interest in UC Santa Barbara. You have successfully submitted your online TAG
application to UCSB for fall 2017 transfer admission. We now look forward to receiving your
University of California transfer application during the November 1-30 application period. Apply at
www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply. When applying for admission, please remember that your
transfer admission guarantee is only applicable for the major you indicated on your TAG application.
UC Santa Barbara does not provide an admission evaluation or early admit decision as part of its
TAG program. When you apply to UCSB for admission, we will review your TAG and notify you of
your TAG and admission status beginning mid-March through the end of April. In order to maintain
your TAG eligibility, you must meet the following conditions:
• Complete the required courses in English and mathematics with grades of C or better by the end
of fall 2016 for fall 2017 admission.
• Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC-transferable courses by the end of fall 2016 and
maintain a minimum overall 3.20 GPA through the end of spring 2017, and meet major prep course
and GPA requirements for majors in the biological sciences and economics.
• Complete all other TAG requirements as outlined in the UCSB Fall 2017 TAG by the established deadlines.
If for any reason you are unable to meet the conditions of the TAG, an offer of admission will
depend on your completion of transfer admission requirements and selectivity in the applicant pool.
Students who do not meet all TAG criteria may still be competitive for admission to UCSB. Thank
you for submitting your TAG application. UC Santa Barbara has much to offer you, and we look
forward to your becoming a part of our vital educational community.
Sincerely,
Office of Admissions
University of California, Santa Barbara

My top choice is UCI, but I would love to go to sb. The campus is beautiful and I wanted to go so badly as a freshman app. And good thing is after this semester, my GPA went up to a 3.27, so I will expecting a letter of admission in the spring since I tagged, YAY! So good to know if I don’t get into Irvine, I still be able to go here.
@dqprty6904, I think if you complete all required prereqs and show an upwards grade trend, you might have a good shot. I know a number of CS folks who were rejected due to missing prereqs last fall, even with 3.8 - 3.9 gpa.
Please help. I tagged to UCSB with a 2.5 GPA. I will be doing academic renewal for 1 term at one school and for another term at another school, bringing my GPA after FALL 2016 to 3.23. Since the AR will go in effect in January, will this count as having my GPA above the 3.2 required GPA? I completed the rest of requirements.
@fakeman200 i do not believe it will apply to fall if it doesn’t kick in until January. Otherwise it is not fair to other applicants. But regardless, you will roll over into regular admission.
@ohm888 Why wouldn’t it be fair to other applicants? 3.23 would still technically be my true FALL 2016 GPA
You said it won’t be AR until January. Doesn’t the term end in Dec? Anyhow, I don’t know, so will stay neutral. I thought you were saying 3.2 after AR.
@fakeman200 as someone who got a D one semester and had to go through the process of academic renewal, or grade forgiveness as I think my CC calls it, I think you’ll be fine. I’m not sure how your school does it, but for me, I filled out the paper work during the summer after the spring in which I got the grade. And when I look at my unofficial transcripts, the grade is still there. But it’s highlighted and isn’t counted in my GPA. And it doesn’t mention that I did it after the semester I got the D. So, I think as long as it’s in effect before Jan. 30 and we update out transfer admission planner before that date, you’ll be just fine.
So we start getting our acceptance or denied results on March 22 and then rolling through till may right?
