UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Waitlist Thread

I got in, but I’m not going, I’ve decided to go to UCR. I was struggling before, but when I actually got admitted it just became too real, that helped me decide. UCSB is just too expensive for me, UCR has much better premed programs. For med school the undergrad school doesn’t really matter, and I’d really like to carry less student loan. I hope I made the right decision.

Denied. I’m glad I got the ball rolling on UCR a few weeks ago. I’m still sorting through housing and financial aid. @siarota I’m sure you won’t regret your decision. I’m thinking on maybe switching majors from philosophy to a stem field. At UCR my doors seem open to choose even as a transfer student. At UCSB, I’m sure I wouldn’t have as much leeway.

@College4Fun @gb11student @aburtohernandez_isaac sorry y’all got denied. If you guys decided to go to UCR let me know if you guys wanna carpool to their highlander day. I live in San Diego.

@siarota I live in San Diego also. What date did you schedule your orientation?

@College4Fun I just registered today, the only available date is sep 10th. I have my own car so I can drive.

Denied as well. I’ll be going to UCR now.

Hey guys just wanted to say I’m sure there are great things in store for all of us. Thank you all for making me feel less alone in this the last 3.5 months- it was really difficult to watch all my friends get in while I had no clue what was happening, and having this little chat group online helped me so much. I hope you all meet up at UCR for orientation! I’m going to be so lonely at SLOs haha. Best of luck to all of you!

This thread helped me a lot too when I was really stressing about everything. Good luck to everyone with our new schools, we always end up at the right place.

And @siarota I’m sad I won’t be seeing you next year after all of our stressing and waiting!! Haha but I’m sure you’ll love UCR!

It was great waiting with you guys. Hope the best of luck of y’all. And for those of you who are going to UCR with me, my instagram is same as my user name, hit me up if you’d like to meet on orientation day.

Agreed- such a valuable thread, kept me sane during all the waiting! Thanks so much and good luck to all in the next adventure!

Omg yes. Thank you all for being open about this! This thread definitely made me feel like I wasn’t alone. It was awesome meeting ya’ll!

Best of luck to each and every one of you on your journey in the university you chose! Ya’ll will definitely do great things!

if you dont mind me asking what was your gpa when you applied

I just wanted to post an update that is hopefully helpful to this year’s transfer waitlists! Last year I was waitlisted (3.1 GPA from SBCC due to a really bad GPA first year) and I wound up not getting off the waitlist. I had sent in an appeal around April 12, and despite numerous calls to the admissions office, it was never made clear to me that they wouldn’t look at my appeal until I didn’t make it off the waitlist and was formerly denied admission during the month of June. I wound up not making it off the waitlist and checked my portal I think June 28 and it said “denied” with no mention of my appeal status, which made it seem like my appeal was denied as well. However they then finally looked at my appeal which at that point was three months old, and let me in the next day (I actually never went back to check the portal because it seemed like a final denial, and didn’t get the physical admission letter for weeks which required me to have to apply to do a late SIR, another stressful process). Anyways, I wound up getting in and am set to graduate this June. Being waitlisted for 3.5 months was one of the most stressful times of my entire life but it did work out so I encourage anyone looking at this to take their time with the appeal (because they won’t look at it until late June anyway- watch the deadline though) and if you know you are meant for UCSB be incredibly persistent with them. If anyone has any questions about appeal letter writing let me know and good luck transfer class of 2021!

My daughter is from Jiangxi. Hoping to transfer in 1-2 years from a CC in San Diego. Top choice is UCSB. We’ll see!
