UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Waitlist Thread

From santa barbara city college:/

waitlisted 3/20 as a sociology major
gpa 3.1 but pretty much a 4.0 for the past year and a half… turned in my appeal last week to the admissions office, and they said they will likely not be looking at it until the first week of may
the appeal status on my portal switched to “pending review”

if you dont mind me asking, what did you include with your appeal? I am a bit scared because on the website it said that the appeal should include new information about myself, however my spring quarter doesn’t end till June 30th, so I dont know if I should file an appeal now or wait to see if I get rejected from the waitlist then file the appeal.

@BIgChina987 The appeal deadline is on June 15th and waitlist decisions can come as late as June 30 so you wouldn’t be able to do that.

Hey guys waitlisted as well. Anthro major 3.0 gpa :confused: but the gpa for my major last year was 3.1. I was going to do an appeal as well but I wouldn’t even know what to write or what to do. Please someone help!

i am here to offer solace, I got into UCSB as poly sci but I won’t be attending. One more spot hopefully?

I thought for waitlist applicants you couldn’t appeal… or at least that’s what I thought the video from them said

@ashleyes I think that’s the uc wide policy, but specifically for ucsb they let you appeal on the waitlist

My appeal had my personal statement and two letters of rec, all that highlighted
-the internship I’ve been doing since December
-the fact that I work insane hours outside of school

  • the sharp improvement and consistency in my grades for the past couple years
    -I also put in that UCSB was my first choice because of some of the programs that they offer

I hope this helps! Also, both of the people who wrote my letters asked me what I wanted them to write and I gave them both outlines of what my letter had in it so that they could work their letters to compliment mine. I definitely reccommend appealing and not being afraid to ask for letters of rec!

@ctehin yes that is right.

waitlisted at UCSB as a sociology major
transferring from Santa Monica College
GPA 2.95
I know my GPA is low but I am positive that my essays played a major part in getting waitlisted. Sociology is not capped/impacted at ucsb. Do I have a chance of getting in off the waitlist? I took all the proper major prep courses. I also got waitlisted at Irvine and Davis. I think I can I can qualify for academic renewal bc I got an F in economics spring 2017 and took it over summer and got a C. Should I appeal? help, please.

@aburtohernandez_isaac hey! I go to El Camino! I as well was waitlisted with a 3.0 gpa kinda in the same boat. You can’t waitlist as a transfer student which sucks only high schoolers can. I also got waitlisted for UCI, UCLA and UCSD which is crazy. I’m just going to wait it out and see how it goes. On the UC website it tells everything for a waitlist. I hope you get in to one of ur waitlists!

@gb11student hey where did you see u could appeal on the waitlist for UCSB cuz I’ve looked everywhere and as a transfer it says no? Hopefully it goes through and if so I would wanna appeal as well I just can’t find anywhere that says I can appeal.

@Highhistoryhopes Should I file an appeal even though I am on the waitlist?
Applicants who do not receive an offer of admission may appeal, whether or not they are on the waitlist. The procedures for appeal are available on the Appeal Process page. Appeals are considered only if new or compelling evidence is presented. Applicants may not appeal to be placed on the waitlist.

Also my counselor who works directly with UCSB said I can appeal

I actually haven’t been able to find anything that says you can’t appeal on the waitlist except one from non-uc affiliated website

For UCSB, Anybody (waitlisted or denied) can appeal as long as they have something new to bring forward

@ctehin thank you! Okay I’m forsure going to appeal too! I hope you get in! Lemme know when u file appeal or get anything back!

@Highhistoryhopes thank you! you too

According to these stats: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

The yield rate at UCSB for my major of philosophy over the last 5 years, not including this year, has been on average 10%. Meaning 90% of the acceptances for my major are handed over to the waitlist (i imagine), if I am reading this correctly. Out of an average of about 250 philosophy applicants per year, about 160 are accepted and about 15-20 of those students enrolled. Thats not even a full class room. Given that, Id say my chances on the waitlist are pretty damn good. Unless I am misinterpreting these results some how.

I was rejected from SD, LA, CAL,
so this waitlist is the only thing I have going for me right now. ^:)^
