UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Waitlist Thread

hey guys here is the waitlist acceptances from last year. I am not sure if they counted transfers. It says that ucsb offered a waitlist spot to 6650 students and only admitted 4000 from that list.

@aburtohernandez_isaac I believe this was the first year they had a transfer waitlist so I’m pretty sure those stats don’t include transfers but don’t quote me on that … not to be a downer or anything

@College4Fun I didn’t even apply anywhere else so i feel your pain lol

@SofiSana this is from the last year 2017. here is the one from the first year they had waitlists which was 2016. they waitlisted 5830 and accepted 3252. but still don’t know if they included transfer

@aburtohernandez_isaac: The Waitlist data you quoted from kickstart is for Freshman waitlisted students which you can find on the common dataset section C2. None of the common datasets show any transfer waitlist data.

Less than a month til we’ll start hearing decisions! Trying to keep my hopes up and expectations low but it’s difficult lol

I thought that the decisions won’t come out until june 30?

@aburtohernandez_isaac they come out starting june 1, the last day for decisions is june 30

for our appeal, the ucsb website says that all documents must be in a single envelope so does that mean our teacher reccs should’nt be in its own sealed envelope?

@72eras yeah all in one envelope

@72eras hey for ur appeal what did u write? I don’t know what to put as my appeal because I could write a number of things. I know they say to put something that they didn’t see in our app but I’m kinda confused.

@Highhistoryhopes do you have any letters of recommendation? Get one or two and put them in the same envelope as the appeal. Since you need info that you didn’t already add, as long as those letters weren’t on your original application you’re good. Include a letter restating your interest in the school if you end up doing all that. Don’t only send the letter, make sure you have something that is new information for them (the recommendations) with it.

@Highhistoryhopes talk about any new extra curriculurs that you might have done after you turned in the orignal app. i included my winter grades bc those didnt make it in time for the tau. i got a teacher rec from one of my professors that graduated from ucsb. Added that my older brother is an alumni with the same major and further expressed my interests in my intended major.

hey if I plan on dropping a course and getting a W on it, do you think my application will get rescinded? with the class, I have 67 up units and if I drop it id be at 64 UC units. should I contact admissions?

tell them asap

In my appeal I’m planning on including my GPA from this semester and teacher recs and I’m gonna talk about how I had mental health problems during my first year that made my grades lower, but I’m wondering if you guys think this is enough “new information”? I never mentioned the mental health issues in my original app

Are any of you guys freaking out over the fact that they sent out rejections to almost all the freshmen waitlisted students last week? I’m DYING over here

freshmen and transfers are kept separate so we shouldn’t be affected. @gb11student

I’m a bit scared by it too though lol. I wish we could find out the SIR statistics so far

@ctehin Eventhough SIR stats vary each year, we can get a ball park of what they may look like from these statistics of SIR for transfer students only over the last 5 years for each major at each UC. Note the average of admits minus the enrolls for each major. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
