I wondered if anyone was currently enrolled with this major. I am curious about the program that UCSB has involving film. I got into Long Beach and most likely got into UCSB (TAG). I have gone over each school, gathered as much information as I could procure from the internet. All I really want to know is your interpretation of the classes you are taking, what life is like, and the opportunities that have arisen while attending whether through networking or interning. I am aware that UCSB only has a film studies major, where as Long Beach is more production orientated but I believe I can gain the knowledge needed through a class room setting and get hands on time with internships if I attend UCSB.

Dilemmas Dilemmas, can you help me?

Hi! I will be graduating with a BA in Film and Media Studies from UCSB in June and I loved the program.

Although the program has been historically more “theory based,” it has dramatically expanded the production department. A few years back they changed it from Film studies to “Film and Media Studies,” expanding the program to all media outlets. I believe that you make what you want of it–if you want more production, you will take more production classes. The bummer is the required courses, but you just have to get them done (I recommend taking as many as you can during the summer.) And even though they can be boring, they are very educational and raise awareness about the meanings behind films.

The program is small and close nit; I am currently in a Forensic Media seminar class with a total of 12 students (extremely rare for UCs). As for the profressors, they are awesome, especially Dana Driskel, Greg Siegel, Walker, and the special industry professors (like Allison Anders, whom I am taking a autobiographical screenwriting class with right now).

Production classes offered include animation, video production, screenwriting, acting/directing, short production, lighting, and many more.

I hope this helps! Choose UCSB!

Thank you so much.
Have you had the opportunity to do any internships on movie sets?
What are your plans now that you are going to graduate with the BA? Masters?

Really thanks a lot for the response.

Film Studies applicant here too…thanks for the info!

what other schools did you apply for^^^

USC (communications), Chapman (creative producing in the film school…got in), and a couple other UC’s for film studies
I doubt i’ll get into UCSB, but if not i’m happy about Chapman

Thats cool about Chapman. I didn’t really look at any private schools when I was applying. Why don’t you think you will get into UCSB?

Way below averages…
3.5 W
1770
I’m digging Chapman though…a lot
Either way, it would be nice to get into UCSB if I can’t afford Chapman

Yeah if I had know about Chapman I would have applied.

I am a transfer student so its a bit different.
