UCSB Financial Aid Award out

hey guys, i was able to see my UCSB financial aid ward today!

anyone else?

I was just wondering what your unofficial award letters say?

im getting about 20,000 in grants and the rest needs to be loans

^ What was your EFC?

Mine came out too… I’m kind of disappointed, tbh. I had an EFC of 0, and am an independent student. They’re recommending I get $7,000 in loans/year and work $2,000. I wouldn’t mind working but that amount seems a tad too high for loans, especially since I’d like to graduate with none (I plan on going to grad school).

yeah i only get like $1400 or so in grants…what BS…im the only person in my household that has a job right now…

They are “unofficially” offering me $19,019 that I won’t have to pay back, plus another $9,500 in loans, workstudy, etc.

Can we expect to receive about the same amount of fin. aid from the other UC’s, or does it typically vary substantially from one campus to the next?

Did you guys already get accepted?

Just checked mine out - They are giving me $21019 (that figure includes Grant/scholarship money only). I’ll break it down cause I know you people like numbers ;)

Cal Grant: 10302
Pell Grant: 5550
University of California Grant: 3167
Federal Work-Studey: 2000

Something Odd, is that they recommend that I take about $7000 in loans out. Davis’s financial aid letter (the one I got to view for about a day before they took everyone’s down) gave me an $11,000 ug aggie something scholarship, in addition to the Pell and government stuff. In fact, Davis’s summary didn’t even include the possibility of a Cal Grant (which is sweet! I actually did apply by March 2, so I’ll get that too!..hopefully). The way I figure it, Davis is the better deal. </p>

It’s also good to hear that UCLA gives even more! Maybe they’ll give me a sizeable amount  Didn’t apply to UCSD (can’t stand the place) so I have no idea what they offer.

solidblu, that’s pretty much exactly what i received. Actually, you received exactly what I did!

And yes, award formulas differ by campus. UC Merced gives me their scholarship which was nearly $12,000 (I’m too lazy to look up an exact figure ATM).

Also, some things I have not seen in my award letter, which I believe I’m eligible for, are:

 • National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants: Need Pell Grant eligibility (check), 3.0 GPA (check), SMART eligible major (check: Physics). Provides $4000/yr as long as you have under 185 units
 • Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG): Website is vague on details, though sounds almost exactly like the UC Scholarship description. I’m assuming I’m eligible for this, but I’d like to know if as a Pell Grant recipient I’m eligible for this or if you need to be a citizen (some websites suggest you do). Awards seem to range from $100-$4,000
 • Other scholarships: The website says you automatically applied for scholarships (doesn’t say what type/how many/how much) when you filed your application

Again, I know this isn’t much… Except for math/science-related major (yay SMART!!). I’d love to know if anyone has more info on the last two items on this list.

I barely got anything from UCSB, my offer was crap compared to UCSD.

Disappointing since I like UCSB better.
