Go check your accounts. Fun times

I got about $4,355 grant and $22,902 in loans, totaling to a cost of $27,257.

I’m not very fond of the idea of loans.

Do you guys think this this better or worse than what I got from UCI, which was a lousy $333 grant and $18,869 in loans, totaling a lower cost of $19,202?

I guess this means UCSB is roughly $3,700 more than UCI, for me.

Does it only show for those who got accepted? Where do you check it?

I think so, for those of us who are accepted it shows a “Unofficial Award” tab on the side.

I got 18k in grants and the rest in loans…

yawn, I think its better to have more in grants because you’ll eventually have to pay the loans back anyways…it seems to me like ucsb is the better deal…

Yeh, you have to be accepted to see your awards.

I have an efc of $20,000 - so i didn’t get jack. except for “recommended” loans. It’s so annoying. My wife and I don’t make that much, but they count two married people the same as one single person. It makes not sense… I don’t have parents who are contributing anything… I don’t get this whole FAFSA EFC thing.

UCSB costs $8,055 more than UCI, but it only gave me $4,022 more in grant. Thus being $3,700 more expensive.

Which is a shame, because I’d prefer to go to UCSB than UCI. But I can only afford to go to the cheapest one.

Federal Pell Grant $4500
University of California Grant $4955
Federal Work-Study $1900
Recommended Subsidized Direct Loan $5500

Total Unofficial Need-Based Aid $ 16855

POSSIBLE CAL GRANT ELIGIBILITY
Possible Cal Grant Eligibility $7788

yawn is right - grants are obviuosly better then loans (b/c grants are free money, and loans suck balls) - but if the school is more expensive, and the grants don’t meet that rise in price, then you have to take out more in loans, which again, sucks balls.

though, you have to weigh how much that $4,000 is worth to you going to Irvine versus SB - if you are going to be miserable at Irvine and extrememly happy at SB, then i’d say that $4000 is money well spent…

btw, is cal grant factored into any of this yet? i know i’m not going to qualify, but my cal grant award page thing still says “processing application”?

loller- did you UCSB financial summary page show “possible cal grant eligibility?” or are you just adding that…?

ben, look at my financial aid. it says “possible cal grant eligibility 7788”
so i dont think it is factored into it

which means i could possibly get up to $24,683!?

Strange, I don’t see anything…

I don’t remember sending in a Cal Grant app but it still gives me a result, which is basically teasing me but whatever. Although, my CC’s website says they automatically submit it for me if I’ve done more than 24 units?

Either way I got about $10,000 in grants and work study but since UCSC will essentially be free (No loans, likely) for me if I continue to live at home, I don’t think it’s enough. Oh well! :)

for those of you getting grants - what is you and your parents expected contribution?

and yes, i think all Cali CC’s submit you for calgrant automatically if you have 18+ units

ucsb says that i have a cal grant possibility, but uci doesn’t mention it. anyone else on the same boat?

^^

Me too

krishteene, UCDavis doesn’t give the amount of Cal grant either, i guess they just didn’t put it in, it doesn’t mean that we don’t get it.

I can’t even check my UCD account, because I forgot my ID and password. -_-

Guess that means I’m not going to UCD. =/

is the University of California grant the same as the ‘Cal Grant’?

i got $10,567 from the ‘UCG’ but don’t see anything explicitly marked ‘CalGrant’.

this kind of worries me, because that’s a potential $9,700, at least part of which i definitely qualify for.

my efc was ~2600

I got a question (it’s stupid, but i have to ask), after sending in my SIR i deleted the colleges on my FAFSA except UCSB. I had it on my FAFSA as fourth college and i had a total blonde moment and forgot to move it to first college. Was i supposed to move UCSB to first college or is it fine sitting at fourth college? If not, now i have to wait like 3 days to change it lol.

it’s a stupid question, i told you lol

pinker,

No, I’m pretty certain that the Cal grant is different than the UC grant.
