UCSB for premed?

Anyone considering going to UCSB and going for the pre-med route?

me...i dont know how good it is, but we can say im giving it a try

what about for pre-law?

Major in Law and Society.

i guess the law and society major does not exist anymore, and they deleted it for fall 2006. so, i am majoring in communications. is that bad?

Does UCSB have a medical school attached to it?

Nope, no med school.

thats wierd no onetalk about premed in this post..

haha... well then I applied for pre-med. I have doubts too as to how beneficial the curriculum and program will turn out. I might switch my major to Communications.

Getting in to a medical school is all about GPA. When you apply to Medical schools you'll be applying to about 15! And that means all over the US. Having a degree from a UC and a high GPA will make you a great candidate for admission.

whats high, is 3.5 good enough?

I think the average for med school is about 3.5-3.6, so you want to get around 3.7

is law school similar?

ya i heard it was around 3.4, do you think thats do-able at ucsb or is it really hard, i mean i wont go out every night but i wanna have some fun here and there

If your GPA in high school is kinda average don't expect to do really well in college. Students tend to bring their study habit with them to college. There is room for improvement BUT if you can't focus on your studies expect some Cs. Trust me, it's not that easy to get an A at UCSB unless you really put a lot of effort to it.

well to be honest it is, but i did ABSOULETLY no work in high school, really i did nothing, and its a blue ribbon school and crap, i plan on studying 3 hours a day in college though

Good to have a plan, but like New Year resolutions it means nothing unless you're consistently doing it your whole 4 years. It's really hard to break a habit especially when you're on your own and can to what you want.
