Does anyone have any experience with the Honors program? If so, with what major? To those admitted to the Honors program as a freshman, did you accept the offer? And did you stay with the program? To those accepted this year, are you planning to join Honors? Just trying to get some feedback on how popular this program is and to see how people have enjoyed it. thnx.

I just got accepted (pre-bio) and I am going to be in the program. I went to the preview day and it seems like it really gives a good experience for those in it who are motivated to use it. The students on the panel all seemed relatively happy with their decisions to be in the program and half of them were not in it as freshman, if that tells you anything.

What I learned from the presentation is that the honors program accepts the top 250 freshman that apply/are accepted to UCSB (strictly numbers based), and you can apply in if you have a 3.6 at the end of the first or second years there if you don’t get in the first time. You get certain things like priority registration, honors sections, honors floor, etc. It seemed like there were a few hundred people in the program as a whole and the number stayed relatively stable as those who dropped out the first year were replaced by those applying in. The honors program does have requirements of a certain number of honors courses a year, but it doesn’t seem to be hard to meet that requirement.

I got accepted as a freshmen and have taken 4 math honors experiences in my first year and plan on taking two more economics next year, all of which are lower division. The minimum requirement for lower division experiences is 4, so why am I doing this? Duh. Because I have loved all my honors classes, and hope to love them in the future as well.
