Hi I was accepted into UCSB as a pre-biology major but not admitted to the Honors Program. I was however invited to the Chancellors Reception a week before admissions came out and felt I was a top applicant to be admitted to the program. Is it possible that I could still be invited into it later on after I enroll?

Hey, you had to be in the top 2% of the whole applicants to get into the Honors Program and top 10% to be invited to the Chancellors Reception. The Honors Program recipients have been informed that they are in it. You can still be in the Honors Program after you enroll, but you would need to have at least a 3.2GPA(I believe) or higher to get in the program later on. Good luck.

It’s different for each college I believe. I got into the Honors program for the college of letters and sciences, and from the website it said that “about 10 percent of the most outstanding first-year and transfer students are invited to join the Honors Program when they are admitted to the College [of Letters and Sciences]”. Not sure how it works for pre-bio but for me it says in the portal, right under what college I got into, that I’ve also been accepted into the program. Try googling it!

You can apply summer after freshman year I believe. Also, it is much higher than a 3.2. you need at least a 3.6-3.7 when you apply. Definitely worth it though… You never have to worry about crashing classes and you can also pretty much pick whatever class times you want (morning, afternoon, evening). That is a huge advantage when so many of the students won’t even be able to get into every class they want each quarter.
