UCSB Housing?

Hi Guys,
I've been researching and researching but can't seem to get enough information on some of the apartments down in UCSB. I'm a transfer student and would like to know if you guys have any good apartments in mind down in UCSB. I've heard Manzanita is pretty nice but Santa Cruz apartments are good too. Let me know any pros and cons. Thanks!

if you are a transfer student, then san raf… That is where all the transfers go. there’s also university owned apartment complexes in IV that you can sign up for which are much cheaper.

Yeah, a lot of people dream of living in IV. Here’s what it looks like:

[Deltopia 2011, UCSB, Isla Vista, CA - YouTube](<a href=“Deltopia 2011, UCSB, Isla Vista, CA - YouTube”>Deltopia 2011, UCSB, Isla Vista, CA - YouTube)

[Halloween in Isla Vista - Santa Barbara - YouTube](<a href=“Halloween in Isla Vista - Santa Barbara - YouTube”>Halloween in Isla Vista - Santa Barbara - YouTube)

I think there is some fun to be had there…

smh.

I can’t wait to get out of here.

Thanks guys! LOL AllFieldsAreReq WHY! Is it that bad? UCSB has good yelp reviews lmao

Oh well if yelp approves then… :p

jk
Like I said, it all depends on the person. If those videos look appealing to you then go for it! 'Cause that is pretty much how it is.

Mind you it’s those same streets where finding parking is a NIGHTMARE. While parked here my tires were slashed and my friend got his mirror ripped off. Smh.

But if you live in the apartments you’ll most likely be given a space to park on private property so that won’t be a problem for you. If you have guests over though, just be careful and warn them of parking on the street!

Videos like this embarrass me though:
[Yeah UCSB is fun. - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)
^ This video shows some of the homeless people that I have brought up earlier. Also, there is a clear lack of diversity. Is this an accurate representation of UCSB as a whole? Of course not. But this is pretty much what IV is like and what people associate with the UCSB campus.
If you live on campus, you aren’t going to find any of that wild partying. I love being on campus because it is more ‘normal’ and chill.

I am pretty sure this is what comes to mind when most people think of UCSB. Unfortunately, these people are my family, friends, and potential employers. When I volunteered at the American Cancer Society my adviser brought this up. What am I supposed to do? Smile sheepishly and say, “Yeah, that’s us…that’s my college. Please take me seriously though?”

Lots of people love it though and I am happy for them. Actually, I am jealous. I wish I loved my college as much as the people in those videos! =]

To each his own

Awesome reply. I always felt negative about UCSB…but if I don’t get into UCSD with a 3.34, I’m gonna have to go here as a last resort. I’m not a party person nor do I drink. Hopefully I’ll be able to avoid the partying scene lololol

I know what you mean. UCSB was the only UC I got into. While I did actually want to attend regardless, it was my only option for a UC.

You can DEFINITELY avoid the party scene, no problem! Don’t get discouraged.

I don’t drink or party either and I have never felt pressured to. This is my second year living in the dorms. IMO, the UCSB campus =/= IV. I feel they are very different. The campus itself looks calm and chill and like a typical college campus.
Off campus though is where it can get a little crazy. I think DP is in large part where the party school reputation comes from…

On campus though there are a lot of cool little events that give out free stuff. I love free stuff =]

Glad to hear the other side of the story. thanks a lot for your input allreq. This whole time, people were just constantly barraging me about how beautiful the campus is and how great the whole atmosphere is over there… while schools like uci and ucsd were filled with disgruntled students that didn’t get into ucla or ucb

Yay that makes me happy  the free stuff and the fact that avoiding party scenes is not a problem.
