UCSB info

I have a rather low GPA 3.6 uc weighted, but really good Sat scores 2200. Is there anything extra that I can do to get into UCSB

Are you a junior?

yeah I am but i should also mention my gpa is so low because i got 2 c's last year first semester

3.6 isn't low, but I could see how your perception could be skewed by CC.

well the best thing you can do is to keep a high GPA this semester. The second sem of junior year is prob the most important to the UC.

EC is also very important so you may wish to spend some time in that.

There really isn't much point to take the SAT anymore...

So far you are a match for SB depending on your rank.....

Hope that helps a bit...

I go to a small private school with only 60 kids in a grade I dont think my school ranks

I assume you are instate? UC don't really like people outside of the 10% range so if your school don't rank i think it may work out for you...

yeah I just asked someone Im sure it doesnt rank. I have pretty good Sat2's as well but i am caucasion and that seems to be bad in california

According to some experts, you are competing with your own race when you apply to the UC. Caucasions aren't actually that dominant in CA so you should actually be fine...

You can even try Cal and UCLA...altho they will be reaches, but they are definately not impossible...

what other california schools do you recoommend? you don't think the c's are a big deal?

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCSB: Match

what I suggest is trying to find a uc campus that fits you. The uc schools have differing personalities! Cal is very different from ucla, they both are quite different from ucsb, etc. You may have friends who are now attending these schools and you should talk with them and see how they like it. Also you could visit while school is in session to get a sense of what the campus is like, where people live (eg. right off campus at ucsb, around the bay area at cal), what type of students tend to be at the school, etc.

BTW there was an article in the ucsd alumni magazine a while back detailing how they do admissions. While each uc campus has its own approach, you can figure they're variations on this theme.
