People in high school need to grow up and realize that first and foremost UCSB is a University. I go there and love it. If you go to class which in my experience most people do, you will receive plenty of work to keep you busy. Most classes have 2 midterms a final and at least one paper which you have to do in 10 weeks. Of course there is a party scene, as with any other college campus. Any school can be a party school if you want it to be. UCSB has more of a reputation due to Isla Vista’s set up, with 10,000+ students in a half square mile town all the parties are concentrated into one area so it looks like there is a lot. This with the beautiful beach environment makes for a fun atmosphere to take a break from studies. Freshman year is defiantly more party crazy due to the fact that a bunch of high school students were just unleashed on their own drinking irresponsibly, but it dies down actually once you move into your own place where there is not always the temptation to go out. A lot of people party here, but dont underestimate there academic ability. Surprisingly people seem to party hard and study hard here, most performing well overall. So do not decided against UCSB cause of party or std rumors which are built up to be a lot worse than it actually is and look at UCSB for what it is and amazing academic institution with an amazing social life.

Hey, I am applying to UCSB for Fall 2009. I know it’s early but can anyone give me an idea of which residence hall is good and bad. I need to indicate some preferences for them on my app but there’s just factual info on UCSB’s website:[Residence Halls Descriptions & Rates](http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/hchoices/reshalls-descriptions.htm). I want recommendations from someone who’s living in any of the halls. Thanks!

i’m living in manzanita, and people keep telling me that i’m lucky. manzanita is the newest and the rooms are bigger than in other halls (that’s what some ppl tell me).

NVM- edit…

I’m a first year student at UCSB and I love it. I almost ruled out coming here because of the party reputation because I never partied at all in highschool. I decided in the end that it was the best school for me and I coudln’t have made a better decision. Yes, a large percentage of the students here party, but not everybody does. I do not drink, do not party, and I have a good group of friends that I met here who feel te same. No matter where you go, you will always find groups who do or do not party, and you will have no problem meeting people with the same interests as you.

As for the halls, I live in Santa Cruz and its great. We have large rooms and we have (from what I’ve seen) the largest windows and many rooms have ocean views. If i wasn’t living here, I would probably like to live in San Nic. The rooms are a little smaller than Santa Cruz, but with the first floors having ocean views (8 floors in all), you have a good chance at getting a nice view from your room. When over at manzanita, I have noticed that you get a nice ocean breeze and you are right next to Carillo, the most popular dining common.

Hope that all helps!
