Does anyone know how life is at UCSB. I know it's a crazy party school but I'm not really the partier. I would rather go out to a cafe or out to the city or sumthin. Will I have as much fun there eventhough I don't wanna get wasted every weekend? will i fit in? I'm not against drinking..ill drink for the taste but i dont like to get drunk.

i think you've posted about ucsd also. My advice is to visit both schools and see if the fit is right for you. Spend a day, talk to students, wander around and see if the campus and area is right for you. If you have friends at either school its even better to spend a nite so you see the full cycle of how people spend their day.

You write " I would rather go out to a cafe or out to the city" and that makes me think that ucsb may not be a great fit for you. The school is actually a few miles from santa barbara, so there aren't a lot of cafes and stuff in isla vista. And SB itself is a small town. It sounds like you are describing life in a larger city.

San Diego is a larger city, but the ucsd has more of a commuter feel to it; many students live in mission beach or pacific beach and commute into school. Its maybe ok if you started their as a frosh and have a circle of friends already, but as a xfer student you'll find that many students just aren't around campus that much and it may be harder to meet new people than it would be at ucsb where almost everyone lives on/near campus.

As far as the drinking and so on, sure its there if you want it, but its not like thats all people do. When you have 18,000 kids 18-22 living in one place lots of them are going to be drinking, but lots will be doing other things too. If you look at http://events.sa.ucsb.edu/index.asp you can see what events are going on.

I return to my advice, visit both schools and talk to people. A lot of times you get a gut feel right away if something is right for you or not. Most people I know who went to ucsb loved it, for example, but a few enrolled sight-unseen and knew literally within hours of going there that it wasn't right for them. You have time to avoid this problem by visiting your choices ahead of time.

Based on what you said I think UCSC would be a good choice for you. There are parties (like any other school), but there are plenty of people who are just like you. Sitting around chatting at a coffee shop or wandering around museums. Consider it. You just might love it! I know I do!!

Thank you for all of your feed back!! I really appreciate it! Actually I was accepted to UCSC as a freshmen...I went there I didn't like that much. I don't know what it was the town...campus..I just couldn't see myself there. And I hat SF and thats where I would probebly go on the weekends if I went to santa cruz.

Calgurl, any chance of going to Berkeley?
It has what you want.

well I would have to go to Sacramento City college for a guarantee. but honestly. i don't mean to put myself down or anything, but I don't think I'm smart enough to get a good GPA there. I mean I would be studying my boody off...school doesn't come real easy para mi.

Calgurl, you can apply without a guarantee, right? Are we talking about applying next year? The year after? Now?
Check out UC Davis too. I think you would like the school.

Yes of course I can apply with out a guarantee. I mean ill do it just for the heck of it..and if i make it.. i guess i would go. But you know Davis, i dont really like. I live like 30 minuts away and i just want to get away. And I really want to go somewhere where there is Ocean..its so peaceful.

Ok. Apply to UCLA too. You will do better than you think. The last two years you take many courses in your major which should be in something that interests you. It will be easier than you think. Good luck.

i spent a friday night and saturday morning at UCSC and it was a blast :)
