UCSB or Cal Poly SLO?? for Communications/ Journalism. (NEED TO DECIDE BY TOMORROW)

So I just got off the waitlist at UCSB. I don’t know what to do

I always wanted to go to college in a city, but my options in LA and NY didn’t really work out, so I was left with Cal Poly SLO and UCSB. If I would have gotten into UCSB and not been waitlisted, there is no doubt I would be going there.

But I didn’t think I would get into UCSB so I just kind of committed my mind to the idea of Cal Poly. I have an idea of what it will be like. I have my roommates. I even think I would like to minor in Graphic Design. I was starting to get excited.

UCSB is still an incredible school. I love how it is right on the water. I feel like it has a better academic reputation. I know that shouldn’t be important, but it is a little to me. It is actually near some civilization, unlike SLO. It also may be easier for me to change majors at UCSB (although I have heard that at SLO, it is easy too as long as you keep your grades up)

On the other hand there is no Journalism major at UCSB. Will this hinder my future? Also to study graphic design I would have to major or minor in Art and take courses like Art history and Painting along with the design classes. At SLO the majors and minors feel more focused. What do you guys think?

Which will provide me with better options for my future? Where will I thrive

PS. I worry a little about the party scene at UCSB and the pressure to look good all the time because of so many beautiful girls. I like to be social at the same time though!! I just don’t know. Please help!

Sounds like CP SLO is the right choice for you. Stick with it and don’t look back.

Congrats and good luck.

I think Cal Poly SLO is better. They do more focusing on helping you find a job while the UCs leave you on your own. Plus, it’s cheaper and you’ve really committed to going there.

SLO Hands down would be my choice. I remember when my older sister got into UCSB we took a trip to check out the school and it was just party party party right on the beach. SLO is imo a more prestigeous school. If you wanna party, that’s great but you should not mix the two together (i.e. going to a party school). That’s just my opinion though.
