UCSB or CPP?

Ok so I got into UCSB, but as undeclared in the College of Letters and Sciences instead of my intended major, Mechanical Engineering. However, I was accepted into UCSB's College of Letters and Sciences with honors. The only other school I have been accepted into so far (waiting for UCLA but that seems like a long shot) is Cal poly Pomona (CPP) for Mechanical Engineering.

Is UCSB that much better of a school than CPP?
Do I have any chance of transferring into the College of Engineering at UCSB?
Should I just accept CPP or take UCSB's honors offer and major Physics as a backup?

Thanks~

What school has the better programs for ME? I got in SB but waiting for cpp

SB is supposed to have a better engineering program.

I got into UCSB, UCSC, SDSU, and CPP. I don’t know which one to pick. I got into Pre-Biology at UCSB and Biology at CPP. I do not want to pick SDSU since I am from SD.

I’m waiting for UCB and Stanford, but I doubt I’ll get accepted. Hoping my ethnicity helps me out …

If you want to be an ME, then you’re going to CPP. There was a post earlier this year from an unhappy parent who’s son was trying to change into ME. Out of 30 students his son knew about trying to do this, the dept said no to 25. So while it is possible, the odds are strongly against it.

There is one other option, but it too has risk (although not as much). You can attend SBCC for 2 years, take part in the TAG program which guarantees admission to UCSB provided you meet all the TAG requirements, including a 3.40 in major prep courses (that’s the risk element). All engineering majors are eligible for the guarantee. A starting point to read about it is [UCSB Admissions](http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/prospective/tagletter.asp) Your 1st year live in one of the overpriced private dorms (using the money you save at CC tuition rates instead of UC rates to pay the difference between UC dorms and the private). After that live in Isla Vista, just like the rest of the UCSB students do. You’ll be right in the community of students all 4 years, can take part in many clubs and activities all 4 years, and after your 1st semester at SBCC even are allowed to take 1 class per term on the UCSB campus.

Its not exactly the same as going to UCSB all 4 years, but it is an option you may want to consider. However if you want to be an ME and are pretty confident of that, then go to CPP. If you’re a 3.0 student your 1st 2 years at CPP you still have time to improve and you’re going to be an ME. Do the same at SBCC and you’re not going to be an ME.

Also happened to me, I called admissions yesterday and they said there is basically 0 chance of being able to switch into CoE because it’s just too competitive this year, and they admit so little people.

If you really want to do ME, go to a school you already got accepted into for ME. Don’t waste your time in another major.
