I was recently admitted to both UCSB and UCSD, along with SDSU’s Weber Honors College. I am having a bit of an issue deciding where I should go, however, and was wondering if anybody had any insight for me. I am pretty sure I don’t want to go to UCSD as I just didn’t really like the whole set up of the school, and so I’ve basically narrowed it down to UCSB and SDSU’s Honors College. Had I not gotten into SDSU’s Honors College, it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to decide, however San Diego State is currently offering me the opportunity to live in the newly renovated dorms, study abroad options, personal academic and other advisors, along with smaller honors classes with less than 20 students (not all classes, but some). Also, normally San Diego State is written off as just a party school and a lot of people look down on it, but the Honors College has an average incoming GPA of over a 4.0 along with 1300+ SAT score according the the orientation I recently attended for it. UCSB has yet to really offer me anything, but it is a UC and thus is considered “better” by most, so I don’t know what to do. I don’t really like UCSB’s campus, but I don’t want to go to a school that isn’t taken seriously either. Any information you can provide will help! Thank you!
What are you planning to study?
Right now I am going in as a Business major, but I am not entirely sure what exactly I want to do.
SDSU has a very good business school. Look up their rating. The alumni network is very good throughout California. If they are offering you the honors college, I would snap it up because they are extremely selective for their honors students. @Gumbymom has a son at SDSU and could probably give you more information on the Honors college.
SDSU has a full business school, UCSB only has business economics.
I’d probably give the nod to SDSU. I think you’ll find the Honors College will be full of students not unlike yourself.
You can’t go wrong either way.
Can’t go wrong with SDSU >:D<
@dstyja - I’m a parent of a current Weber Honors College student. Absolutely awesome program. His peers both in WHC and outside of WHC are exemplary, and he has been challenged every step of the way. He had many more higher-tiered college options, but SDSU kept rising to the top of his list. He is not in the Greek system or a partier and his social life is full (truly, the party mystique is greatly overrated and those in the Greek system are academically driven and focused, too). I’m an alumna of SDSU, and really the only people who don’t take it seriously are those who have very little knowledge of the school, in particular the growth and expansion of the school and programs since 1998. Our alumni include CEOs, Executive Directors, business people, politicians, scientists, doctors, award winning actors, directors, writers, astronauts, engineers, etc. Incredibly strong and devoted alumni base, and alumni mentoring program. 1 in 7 San Diego County college graduates are from SDSU, and there is a dedicated network of alumni throughout the US/world. I absolutely adore the SDSU interns who I have worked with over the years… professional, engaged, outgoing, bright, and determined.
