UCSB or UC Davis for Ecology/Env Science/Animal Science

Hey all,

I'm a senior in HS and have been accepted to UCSB and hope/expect to be accepted to UC Davis. I also applied to UCSD, UCB, UCSC, and UCLA, so some of those are potential possibilities. Which of the two do you think is better suited for me? I am a passionate, quirky Hispanic LGBT female. I run, volunteer, and do animal research. I am considering agriculture, env science/ecology, marine biology, and animal science as potential majors. I really want close relationships with friends and professors that will hopefully last. I'm not really a partier, I'm an introvert, but I love the beach and marine life and making new friends. Which do you think I should lean towards?

Both will welcome you and provide great educational opportunities. Tour both, they have a very different feel, one will call your name more than the other.

I agree with NCalRent. If you have not visited the campuses, you really need to since both have a very different vibe. UCSB’s location cannot be beat with the beach so close. Very friendly but definitely the california beach girl/boy feel. UC Davis, very rural although you are only 20 min from Sacramento. Very friendly campus, no beach but a really cool Raptor center where you could volunteer. Since you mentioned quirky, UCSC may be the campus for you. That is how I described UCSC to my niece whom loves the “quirkiness” of the campus and the people. Good Luck and all are great choices.

UCSB can’t be beat for Marine Biology. Davis is California’s ag campus so its focus on animal sciences is a pretty good fit – barring the marine part. They feel very different and I agree you should visit both. Both are good schools.

I also agree with UCSC and the quirkiness part, for a good segment of the campus. Another good segment is the silicon valley aiming student body, and there are others.
