I am majoring in Biology Pre-med and I cant decide which school would be better as a whole: University of California Santa Barbara or University of San Diego. I also got accepted into the Honors program at USD.

Davis has a strong biology department, but so does UCSB. Davis has a med school, but since UCSB DOESN’T there isn’t the same competition from graduate students for the opportunities. (My niece graduated from UCSB and is graduating from medical school this year, and going to a residency in surgery back east-- she tried to get back to Santa Barbara but will be at a hospital associated with an ivy instead.) My sons have been accepted to both, not in biology, and are making the same decision. I’ll be happy with whatever they choose and kind of assume one will choose each. Have you visited them?

UCSB is probably a better choice than USD. But, you need to be comfortable in the environment to perform your best. If you want a smaller, more intimate school(and you can afford it), USD could be the right call.

@collegevetting I was referring to University of San Diego not Davis. But thank you!

@vad6596 oops! Sorry! But I can’t add more anyhow, I’m afraid I’m not familiar with USD. I am familiar with UCSB, and recommend it, however! They are having their ‘spring insight’ on April 12 for admitted students if you want to visit – or you can go any time if you’d rather see it when nothing special is planned.

Congratulations on two excellent options. Presume you’ve toured both, talked to current students and professors? They are very different environments. Both are good for your major, so it’s really a decision re: which one you LIKE more, and where you can see yourself living/fitting in.
