I'm having a really difficult time deciding whether I should attend ucsb or go too community college and then transfer to (hopefully ucla). Some of the pros I have found with the cc option is that my local cc does offer a tap program, in addition to that, I would save 2 year's worth of tuition, and I would have the time to get into the major of my choice, neuroscience, which ucsb lacks...However, I wouldn't be able to experience that 4 year college life everyone raves and cherishes about. Would a ucsb-ucla transfer be possible ? Basically, I want to be a doctor, which one do you think is the better route ? Where would I have more opportunities ?

UCSB->UCLA is possible, but its definitely not the norm to transfer between UCs.

You really need to ask yourself why you want to go to UCLA. I actually graduated from UCLA and am now in Med school, but I don’t think UCLA is a good school to go to if you are interested in going into medicine. Its pretty competitive, the school is ginormous (harder to get recs, no advisory board, etc.), and undergrad really doesn’t matter for medical school. I know tons of people in my class who went to lesser known schools.

If saving money is really a concern for you, then go ahead and take the CC route, but make sure you have the right reasons for choosing a school. The end goal is the MD not the BS/BA. Once you are a doctor, noone is gonna care where you went to undergrad, so go wherever you feel you are most likely to succeed.
