I applied to UCSB and for Computer Science, alternate major Computer Science and Engineering, and I got in as Undeclared in the College and Letters and Science honors program. The problem is, I really really want computer science as my major and even though I desperately want to go to UCSB, I’m scared I’ll waste money if I don’t end up getting computer science as my major. The portal said I could still email them and request to change my major, but college of engineering major changes are unlikely to happen as it is very difficult to get in.
I want to know 1) how likely is it for them to accept a major change to computer science, 2) even if attend UCSB as undeclared, will I be able to change to computer science at some point and 3) if not, is UCSB even worth considering at all?
UCSB has a small Engineering school in comparison to the other UC’s. I will list the link to see what you need to do to change majors however, from past experience, you can still meet all the requirements to change majors if there are no spots available, you will not get in. Is not impossible, but also not guaranteed.
My advice since CS is so competitive at all the UC’s, if you have a direct admit at another school, consider that option.
You have to decide if your first choice is CS or UCSB, since you may not be able to have both.

It is very difficult to transfer into Engineering at UCSB. Do you have other options where you were accepted into CS?
So far the only UC I got into was UC Davis for computer science in the college of letters and sciences. However, I really like UCSB’s campus, and considering that it is ranked higher than UC Davis, is it still worth it to go?
